I specialize in restoring FJ40 Land Cruisers, I’m always on the hunt in the rural areas of the North West to find Cruisers, every once in awhile I come across a good vintage 4x4 from word of mouth or knocking on farm house doors. I found this Ford in a rural Washington farm town just off the Canadian border. The previous owner did a lot of nice work to this truck, it runs and drives excellent. I will explain the details below. I pick up choice 4x4’s, then offer them for sale at a profit which usually covers my fuel and hotel to get the Land Cruisers. The one un-desired component about 77 was the gutless 400 motor. The stock 400 was removed and replaced with a rebuilt 429 big block. This motor is incredible, built for massive torque. I’ve driven a lot of 4x4s which the owners placed in a hot motor with a huge cam. That type of motor does not work in a 4x4. This guy got it right with this 429, tons of low end and mid range, it screams. Electric choke Holley 4 barrel and aluminum intake. The automatic C6 transmission was also rebuilt at the same time as the 429. The trans has a shift kit, even the kick-down works. The motor and transmission have an estimated 4000 miles on them. Oil pressure is excellent, charging system works, temp stayed cool on my 50 mile test drive in 95 degree heat. U-joints and some ball joints were also replaced last year by Les Schwab. The rear axle (Dana 60) has a factory type posi or limited slip. Hit the gas, both tires spin, but no ratcheting or clicking around sharp corners like a full Detroit locker. This means good highway manners. The previous owner spent thousands on this truck’s drive train. Brakes all redone about 4000 miles ago, 4wd works great. The factory power assist steering works well. This truck is very tight, no shimmies or loose steering going down the road. BODY This truck is original panel, original paint. There are a few very minor rust spots shown in the photos. Very easy fix, simple cut out and small patches. The frame and most of the body are great. I love buying original paint vintage vehicles, you know what you are dealing with. The doors open and shut well. The tail gate needs some attention, missing some latches. The glass is cracked. I try to point out any negatives, the pictures on the link from every angle are worth a 1000 words. The tires are 33’s with excellent tread on aluminum wheels. Aftermarket steel bumper with good tow package. Real Factory high boy trucks are coming up in value and are projected to have large increases in value according to Hemmings News. I see a lot of adds for high boys that are not. High Boy trucks were only made from 67-77 and are all factory lifted F250’s amongst many other upgrades. The previous owner spent the money to make this truck perform. Time for the next stage…cosmetics, or leave it and enjoy a truck this winter that was made for real men. I’ve driven this truck about 75 miles total with no complaints, that is the extent of my known reliability. This truck was originally sold in Montana, I have the original owners manual, warranty card, and sleeve from the Montana dealer. These trucks are hard to find at all these days, even more not rusted to the ground. I have a clean clear WA state title in hand, signed not dated or sale priced from the PO, I can send you as-is or change over to my name and send it, there will be a 8 week wait from the state and additional $250 in fees. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit via PayPay directly after auction conclusion (No Exceptions) The rest in 5 days. I heard every non-payment excuse, I accept none, I will go to extreme lengths to collect, so please only buy if you plan to complete the transaction. I have a shipping broker whom has shipped dozens of vehicles for me all over the lower 48, I will pass on his info or work with your shipper. Vehicle or title do not leave my possession until cleared full payment. Thanks for looking, I’m glad to answer any questions via email or phone. Xlt explorer ranger lariat f150 f350 classic vintage
