Vehicle Detail
This Jaguar is a nice matching-numbers driving example of a Series 1.5 Roadster. I have owned it for about 25 years and it is time to pass it on to someone who will drive it. I no longer do mainly because it is too hard for me (and my wife) to get into/out of. This Jaguar is a Series 1.5 of which only 2801 were built in 1967 and 1968. The Series 1.5 retained the running lights above the bumpers like the Series 1 XKEs but did away with the glass headlight covers. Big improvements were made to the mechanical systems including dual electrical fans to eliminate overheating problems in stop and go traffic. Dual Stromberg carbs replaced the triple SU set-up for ease of tuning and increased reliability. Engine displacement also went up from 3.8 liter to 4.2 liter (260 HP). The brake system was also upgraded for increased reliability and stopping power and the transmission became an all synchromesh unit. These mechanical improvements were carried over to the Series 2 XKEs but they were also longer, wider and heavier than the earlier E-Types. Several years ago I had the engine redone by Donovan Jaguar in MA. More recently I had all the cosmetics done -- new British Racing Green paint, new leather interior, new chrome bright work, new wire wheels, new carpeting, new top & top cover, new stereo system speakers, new California car cover and more that I can't remember. That cost was in excess of $46,000. Prices on these beautiful cars are going up but I have priced this one at the lower end of the market. I have a clear Virginia title in hand along with many maintenance records, a water color painting of the car, and several Jaguar books that are included in the sale. I will consider delivering it (by trailer) anywhere east of the Mississippi River for a negotiated price once the car is paid for. This is a nice vintage car that will increase in value over time.
