Vehicle Detail
I have owned this 1969 R50/2 since 1985. The valid Michigan title is in my name. It is a matching numbers motorcycle with the same factory stamped number on frame, motor, and the original manufacturer's head plate. I purchased it as a well running motorcycle with 9k miles, and then I did a correct to model year cosmetic restoration and mechanical tuneup, including rebuilt wheels with NOS chrome steel rims-stainless spokes, new seat, new bars, new headers and mufflers, and repaint/hand re-stripe of about 90% of the motorcycle; only the front fender and fender tail are still in original paint. All electricals are working; the motorcycle is a first kick starter, and runs like a low mileage well tuned R50 should: very quiet and very smooth. The bike has a non vented solo ratio final drive, original production Hella bar end signals with 1969 type red lens, Albert perch mount mirror, and is sold with a correct sized wet cell battery that has not been activated. With now only 15k miles on the original motor, the crankshaft has not been pulled, the motor and gearbox have not been taken apart. Included with the bike are the original tool kit and tool box key. This is a fine motorcycle for someone who wants a properly running BMW that does not need any cosmetic restoration or mechanical attention. I've driven this motorcycle prudently, but was always impressed that the new headers never blued even after 5K or so of use: that's one cool running-well dialed in 500cc motor! It would be a pity to buy this motorcycle and then take it apart to "clean the slingers", and perhaps not be able to get it back together again; if you are planning to do that, please pass on this one. The bike is available for inspection by you or your representative, with prior arrangement. The buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements and shipping costs, but if you are so inclined, you could drive this one home. I can store the bike for a reasonable time for you to arrange shipping. I can answer any questions you may have about the bike by telephone. This is a no reserve price auction. If you have never bid on eBay, I would appreciate hearing from you before you place a bid. The motorcycle is available for world wide sale; I would require payment by wire transfer from foreign buyers or a cashier's check from American buyers within 72 hours after end of auction.
