Vehicle Detail
Lets get this straight from the start - THIS IS NOT A MITSUBISHI 3000GT VR4 SPYDER CONVERTIBLE!! It is an exceptionally rare 1991 Dodge Stealth RT/TT Straman Convertible. I choose to list it here in the 3000GT category because the car is so rare most people would not think to look in the Stealth category for a convertible. The car started life as a typical fullly optioned 1991 Dodge Stealth RT/Twin Turbo before it went to Straman Custom Coach. Straman was a well known and respected custom builder. It is estimated Straman made about two dozen of these Stealth convertibles, some were sold by Straman and others by a dealer in southern California. Lest you think this was an unusual approach, keep in mind that the "factory" 1995-96 3000GT Spyders were similarly converted from regular production cars by ASC for Mitsubishi, but all of those were sold by Mits dealers. This car, or one like it, graced the cover of several magazines in its day (see attachment below). The magazine articles provide some construction details for the Stealth, and history about Straman and info on other luxury convertibles they produced. As detailed in the magazine articles, Straman strengthened the Stealth by, among other things, welding boxes filled with metal tubes to the undersides of the car. The car 23 years later is still rock solid with no sagging and is perfectly aligned - the doors close and latch with a gentle one finger push! It drives glass smooth at 75 mph. Interestingly enough, Straman located the power top switch in the same place the VR4 Spyders used four years later. I am its 3rd owner, I bought the car in 2001 with 47K miles on it, it now has 69K. This Stealth is the 4th RT/TT or VR4 car I have owned. The 60K major timing belt service was done on schedule. I had the transfer case replaced under the factory recall about 9 years ago. The AWD and all wheel steering work flawlessly, the transmission shifts without any issues, the turbos spool up as they should, and the car runs great. The drive train is totally stock. All 4 ECS adjustable struts work perfectly. Everything in the car works as it should, except for the adjustable exhaust. The only stray idiot light is for the washer fluid - see dashboard photo with motor running. It does not have any fluid leaks. As usual for these cars, the windshield defroster vents are cracked. Unusual for these cars, both interior door panels are perfect with no bubbles anywhere. Custom seats are flawless with no rips or holes. The wheels are factory 1st gen chrome turbines (although purists will note they only came on 1993 models) and 3 of them are perfect, the 4th has minor curb rash (pictured). Lots of tread left on Michelin tires. The original cloth power soft top is still in good condition, and it comes with a custom boot cover as can be seen in the photos. There is no rust anywhere. The title is clean and in my name only. The in-dash 6 CD changer is from a newer Eclipse, and is wired to a Kenwood amp mounted behind one of the back seats through Infinity speakers. The sound cranks up fairly well. I always thought it could use a subwoofer, but could never figure out where to put one without messing up the car or removing the back seats. The steering wheel audio controls do not work with this set up. When I titled the car back in 2001, the title clerk incorrectly input the 11th character of the VIN as a "4" instead of a "Y". I never noticed it was wrong all these years until last summer (who checks the VIN on their new title against the vehicle?). The VIN listed here in the eBay listing is correct with the "Y". Because of the VIN error, the AutoCheck report supplied by eBay only has history up to before I bought the car in 2001. Pages 9 - 12 of the magazine attachment below have a CarFax report with the incorrect VIN showing the "4" as the 11th character to help fill in its history. You will want to correct the VIN when you title it. Stealth Straman magazine articles NO RESERVE AUCTION!! HIGH BIDDER WILL OWN IT!! $500 deposit required via PayPal within 48 hours of auction end.
