Vehicle Detail
This is a 1952 MG TD roadster replica convertible replicated from one of of the really great sport cars ever made. Great style and profit potential. If you check the ads, restored MG TD Convertible replica roadster sell roughly from $6,000 to $13,000 and more. It is rare, fairly easy to work on, parts are available, and it's CHEAP! :) . Title indicates MG replica body was added using 1967 Volkswagen Beetle engine, transmission and frame. Plate on body indicates car body was converted (built) in 1978 by British Coach Works of Arnold, PA - supposedly a high quality company, but no longer in business. Odometer shows 12,655 miles, but have no idea of actual mileage. Basically this is a fiberglass body with most of its attendant parts. I bought this car recently with the idea of restoring it as a hobby, but have decided the work is beyond my ability. According to the previous owner, the car sat vacant for several years ( Barn find - sort of) during which the engine, seats, and top were removed and some of the wiring disconnected. It needs: motor, canvas-type top (includes side windows), wiring check, tires, carpet, paint, etc., and a thorough going over. With no motor, transmission etc. could not be tested. Wiring seems to be all there, but is disconnected in a couple of places. New wiring harness is available at reasonable cost and would probably be best approach. Several unattached parts of unknown condition come with the car, including Coil, Alternator, Battery, what I think may be 2 seat bases, one bumper guard, a license plate holder, two rusted rear bumper supports, the unattached rear bumper itself. All tires have decent tread, but are badly dry rotted and need to be replaced. Hole on driver's side floor has been repaired by previous owner.. When the steering wheel is turned, there is a grinding noise. Most of front grill and windshield frame is stainless steel or aluminum. Chrome on car is pitted in places, but headlight chrome, etc., cleaned up fair. Wheels appear to be standard VW wheels. Being basically a Volkswagen mechanically, there seem to be plenty of parts available. I checked around and found used VW engines from $200 to $850, with rebuilt engines running around $1,300. Volkswagen seats apparently can be used as well. A new replacement convertible top with side windows is readily available. There is a complete one for sale on EBay now with a current bid of $90. Since car does not drive, it would have to have it picked up and delivered to you at your expense via flat bed tow truck. It is located five miles from I-81 and I-66 near Strasburg, in upper Virginia. PayPal deposit of $500 is required within 48 hours of acceptance of offer, with balance of funds due within a week. This car is not in good shape, but it has great potential t. If you're looking for a challenge with great rewards, it could be for you. Advantage of restoring the car is you get to pick and choose Exactly the paint color and items You like. Please email me if you have any questions. Thanks.
