This is a 1973 1/2 BMW R75/5 long wheelbase. This is an excellent example of the BMW /5 series, the first of the "modern" BMWs. This bike was purchased by me from a friend as boxes of parts with a rolling chassis. The bike had sat for many years in a barn. I partially restored the bike myself, and then I brought the bike to long time BMW experts Heid's Hodaka & BMW in Johnsburgh, NY, to have them finish the restoration. Everything has been gone through, including a complete rebuild of the transmission. The bike runs strong and is a joy to ride. The only problem I've had is, one time, when I pressed the starter button nothing happened. After a little research I sprayed the inside of the starter switch with contact cleaner and it has started fine ever since. This bike is over 40 years old; it's not uncommon for electrical connectors to develop corrosion over such a long time. The connectors on this bike are easy to get to and have all been disassembled and cleaned. If you are looking to get into a BMW "Airhead," this is an excellent way to do it. All the hard stuff has been done; just put in gas, check the valves and points every now and then, and have fun. These bikes are among the most dependable motorcycles ever made, and /5s have covered and are still covering millions and millions of miles. They are that good. You can find Airheads for sale for less if you look I'm sure but they will most likely need something. This bike needs nothing but you in the saddle and a nice sunny day. Serious inquires only.
