Vehicle Detail
1947 DeSoto Business Coupe You are looking at a wonderful old California black plate car that is a combination of great original and older restoration. It is what I call a good old honest car. It is mechanically sound and drives very well. It needs nothing to begin enjoying. The paint is very good as is the chrome and stainless. All the rubber is supple and tires are very good. The interior is deluxe including wood grain moldings and Chrysler like dark blue wool broad cloth. While this is NOT a 100 point show car it is a very decent and respectable example of a rare and desirable model. The business coupe is a much sought after car by knowledgeable collectors. Chrysler made business coupes throughout the line from 1942 to 1948. Dodge and Plymouth continued production through 1952. Dodge and Plymouth sold mostly to commercial fleets while the upscale business coupe buyer looked to Chrysler for more luxury and even a straight eight in the New Yorker. DeSoto was in the middle. It was not the Chrysler but also too good for the commercial market. As a result DeSoto built only 2000 units from 1942 to 1948 making this car one of the rarest of all Mopars. There may be less than 10 of these cars in existence today. This car was used and enjoyed by a prominent Northern California Collector who liked to drive his cars. This DeSoto was one of his favorite vehicles.
