Vehicle Detail

PORSCHE 1968 911-S VIN # 12801889 I’ve owned this care since 1976, and I believe that I am the second owner. The 911S wasn’t imported in 1968, I believe due to the initiation of air pollution regulations in the U.S. It was imported as a 912 and refitted at the dealer with the 911S engine S gauges and alloy wheels by the original owner. The color is a non-metallic gray with black interior. . There was some rust in the passenger side floor when I go it. I cleaned out the rust and fiber glassed that side of the floor. There is a rust area on the left front fender near the fuel filler. There were also some rust areas on the passenger side rockers shown in the photos. I cleaned out the rust and repaired and primed the areas as you can see. This was done, I recall, in the late 1970’s. I have removed the gray primer to show the repaired areas that have held up very well. All glass is in very good condition. All rubber gaskets and seals (doors & windows) have dried and will need to be replaced. The Blaupunkt AM/FM and the CB radio were added before I acquired the car.. The “side markers” that came only on the 68 are cracked or missing. The e engine is a 68 S with the red fiberglass cover (7,300rpm redline) The weber carbs y are the larger correct IDS carbs. I have not started the engine since the late 1990’s . As I recall I stopped driving it around 1990 but started it several times in the 1990’s and noticed the carb gaskets must have dried out. I do remember that the engine really “pulled strong” from 4,000 RPtMs and up. I also recall that the trans synchronizer for 1st or 2nd gear may need to be replaced.. The underside does not appear to be rusty other than some surface rust and two holes on the passenger side. The front suspension pan was replaced not long after I acquired it and is still solid. The heat exchangers look okay. The Alloy wheels are 5 ½ or 6” factory wheels. I also recall that the fuel in the late 70’s or 80’s was 91-93 octane and I used a “lead additive” with each tank. The car hwas always garaged except for 1 or 2 years in the late 1970’s when I lived in the city I kept the car planning to spend the time to restore it. I’m 64 and running out of time and energy. The original paint is good on 80% of the car, only the hood and the previously mentioned noted areas are shown. As far as work done on the car, I believe that the chain tensioners were replaced, carbs rebuilt, clutch replaced many years ago. The interior is in very good condition, all seats and carpets are original with no tears or worn areas, The headliner is stained on the edges and the plastic clips for the sun visor are brittle and cracked The car needs to be restored, engine and trans pulled and probably rebuilt and brake calipers cleaned. I’m located midway between Baltimore and Philadelphia. The car is available for inspection.
