Vehicle Detail
Selling a nice rare 1991 454 SS truck. GM only made 983 in 1991 and first year for the 4L80E overdrive transmission which makes the 4.10 gears a bit more tolerable. I bought this truck for a project for the TBICHIPS.COM website and did $2600 worth of modifications to gain 95fwhp and 90lbs of torque at flywheel over the stock 1991 454SS specs. I do have the before and after dyno sheets on the website under project towbeast. gas mileage had a similar improvement. Factory window sticker that I saw posted online showed 10 city/ 11 hwy. My first tank of fuel through this thing I got 9 on stock motor. I have put 2000 miles on this truck since the modifications and I consistently get 12-13.5 in town depending on how much playing I do and 14.5 to 15.5 on the highway depending on how fast I run. So fuel mileage increased by as much as the power levels did. Very fun truck to drive and gas mileage is as good as most 4x4 trucks out there so its pretty tolerable to feed which is how I have managed to put 2000 miles on it it in a little over a month since the project was completed. Engine runs flawless with no smoke ( I did change valve seals when changing the valve springs and they were pretty brittle) only motor noise is the comp cams chromoly full roller rockers were a little noisier than I thought they would be. Again nothing out of the ordinary. I have made several dyno pulls tuning this engine and typically if there is a problem that is when it happens but it runs GREAT. the leather seat in the picture is not original of course but it was installed by first owner very shortly after the truck was purchased. Sits well and I like the center console which flips up. I have seen some of the original style bucket seats for sale but would rather leave that decision to next owner rather than increasing the money I need for the truck. same goes for tires. Tread is decent but they are pretty old and getting a little dry rot showing. Still not so bad that you couldnt drive it home to caifornia if you want. Nice southern rust free truck. The underneath of this truck is as nice as the body. Its a really nice truck that sounds VERY close to stock. Not perfectly smooth idle but enough to pass off as a stock 250hp 380lb of torque 454SS but it runs STRONG. HP numbers may not be quite as high as I had hoped but they come in at a low enough rpm that its crazy fun to drive. Truck really needs a better posi the OEM posi just can't stick with the added power. I do have the stock air cleaner, valve covers and even intake for those that might be interested in keeping up with that stuff. as someone may want to return to stock in the FAR future or you could put the stock valve covers back on with the stock rockers for a real sleeper appearance. Fly into greensboro and I will pick you up to drive it home or I will deliver to Greensboro for shipment which i have done before for other vehicles.
