This top of the line full size Chevrolet car was assembled in the last month of production [second week July, 1962] with an intent to combine some muscle [4 barrel, stick shift] with the jet fighter stance, with some economy and protection all in a special order package. The options included the super sport list of bucket seats, special “machine swirl” side and trunk trim [the first 1962 Super Sports only had side swirl trim, the trunk trim was plain], Super Sport emblems on the side and trunk where the guy you were passing could read it, and inside a hand grab bar on the passenger side so they could “sit down, hold on and shut up”! This project car is complete except the carburetor and air cleaner are missing and the valve covers were replaced at one time ; the car sat in a barn and then in a shed for over 30 years. The original engine was missing but the car is so original that it was possible to know exactly what engine it was born with, so with great effort we have a replacement 250 horse 327 [factory stamp SA], yes… a correct dated correct casting numbers 327 v8 with the casting dates all matching, assembled in Tonawanda June 28, 1962. The heads, intake 4 barrel manifold, exhaust manifolds, generator, starter, distributor, coil, are all correct casting numbers and dates. The car is a rare stick shift, with the original pedals from the factory, stick shift steering column. The factory 3779552 stick shift bellhousing and the factory flywheel and stick transmission is included. The rare factory stick shift radiator is included, and the fan shroud. This is no clone or a collection of wrong parts. The super sport only floor brackets for the bucket seats were factory installed. The original grab bar, and floor console [missing its lid] are factory. One of the fender spears has been replaced by a plain Impala spear [original comes with car], and the other side is original but the tip has a crack. The pictures show the car needs some panel repair, floor, toe board, lower body line areas. Inner fenders look solid, battery tray needs replaced, windshield is cracked, all other glass is ok, buckets need redone, etc. Trunk floor area mostly solid. One rocker ok, other needs fixed. The car was optioned with the front bumper grill guard in addition to the SS package and the 327. Factory AM radio, manual brake and steering. The car retains its original factory spiral shocks on the rear. At some point in time in the 1970s the front end received new shocks and some suspension part replacements. The frame appears to be in good condition, there are some areas of rusty metal on the floor since it was an Iowa car driven in winter. The car appears to never have been in an accident, appears factory straight. Mileage is not known but looking at the overall evidence it appears the car has less than 90000 miles..just an educated guess after handling about 500 cars over the last 50 years. I would be happy to answer any questions. We have other projects we will complete so am happy to see someone else get it. $500 deposit will be required after 48 hours of the auction end. The reserve has been set at a low figure representing less than the parting out value. We reserve the right to ask you questions if you have less than 10 stars. Roger 515 238 8358 text is ok
