Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is another great California survivor truck. This 1936 Dodge ½ ton pickup truck cruised the streets of Berkeley, CA back in the 60’s. Old man Syversen used to deliver goodies to the hippies. The truck followed him up to Northern California where it was parked and stored for the long haul. This may arguably be the best prewar year for the dodge pickups and possible better than the 1936 Chevrolet or 1936 Ford pickup. The example for sale in this auction still retains many of the original items on the truck when it left the factory. The 70 horsepower 201 cubic inch L-Head six cylinder is still intact. I did not try to start the engine, but it does turn freely by hand. The original wiring appears to be all there, although some wires will need to be repaired or replaced. Someone changed the coil and installed custom horns with a special horn mounting bar. The original green color can still be seen on the firewall and door jambs. The 78 year truck has held up well over the years. The cab does show signs of rust through on both front and rear corners of the cab. The driver door also has some rust through the will need to be addressed. The passenger front fender has a split and the passenger rear fender will need to be metal finished to restore back to its original state. The six-foot long bed is still in good condition. The metal floor appears to be very solid and the bed sides are very straight. The tailgate will need some metal finishing and repair work to make it nice again. The running boards look good with the exception of the rubber exterior. The grille will need to be replaced or repaired to showcase the centerpiece which makes the truck. The interior appears to be fairly complete. The seat was recently reupholstered in a black vinyl. I do not have the metal floor board or rear bumper. I am also unable to close the front windshield as the regulator appears to be stuck at this time. The front window frame will also need to be repaired or the new owner should try to seek a replacement. The tires are not correct but are fairly new and have a lot of tread left. I have the metal battery access cover, engine crank and glass lens for the passenger side (this does have a crack). The stainless on the hood sides look very good. The hood ornament was broken at some point and a replacement should be sought. This is the ideal truck to get going and drive as is and enjoy. It is also a fantastic starting point for a restoration. There are not very many things necessary to be complete. I have the pink slip (yes it’s pink) / title dated 4/23/1962 which will go with the truck. Back then the registration fees where only $2.00!!!! Wow. I have over 100 pictures available below. Let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. I reserve the right to end the auction early as I have this in other publications.
