Vehicle Detail
Toyota Land Cruiser restoration shop offers this 1977 FJ40 on a no reserve bid to buy auction. I bought this FJ40 as a project in SW Utah, spent a good amount of time and money completing it, offering it as a daily driving vehicle. This is a nice but not perfect FJ40, I call it driver quality without the huge price tag of a perfectly restored unit. This FJ40 is a hot rod that looks mostly stock, the right model year with all the desired conversions. Perfect for someone to drive and actually use, not park in a collection to stare at. I designed this truck to be capable off-road and be comfortable driving on the highway. This truck is a blast to drive. If you actually plan to drive an FJ40 more than 20 miles or above 50mph, you need skinny tires, small or no lift, and the overdrive helps a ton. This is a pump gas performance motor, estimated in the 325 Horse Power range. Saginaw power steering conversion with an adjustable ratio box. I have it set for on/off road, can be turned up for quicker turns off-road if desired. 1 finger turning. Ranger Overdrive ($2000 unit) you depress the clutch and shift the lever to HI from any gear essentially giving you 8 forward gears from the stock FJ40 4 speed transmission. Stock 4 speed transfer case. Original fine spline disc brake front axle 4.10 geared, only made 76-78, stock fine spline rear axle with locking differential. Huge improvement in off-road traction. I do not recommend, but with 325HP and a rear locker you could do Fast N Loud burnies or donuts all day. (Keep it shiny side up) J 1 ½ in lift with Rancho shocks. 99% tread on 5 all terrain tires on new steel wheels/caps/lug nuts. BODY The panels all appear to be original to this truck. 77 was the 1st year for the hard top pop-out windows, nice for summer ventilation. This truck spent its entire life in the St George UT and Las Vegas NV area. Hard to find good FJ40’s these days, hence me buying it 1000 miles from home to finish the build. I call it 99% rust free, there are a couple little spots in the rear sill that were addressed and painted over several years ago. The paint is factory mustard yellow, a middle of the road job several years ago. There are spots of surface rust on pinch points inside the vehicle. Paint job is presentable, but no means perfect. Body in good shape, not perfect. Wheel wells are un-cut, getting very hard to get that anymore. The frame is in excellent shape, no signs of body damage or wreck in the past. Nice stereo system, seat covers over stock seats and head rests, rear bench seat, roll bar, tow package and seat belts. This truck spent considerable time in my shop, we go through all of it and fix anything we see that needs attention. I personally road test the truck before delivery, I do my best to make this truck as trouble free as possible. Please keep in mind that ALL vintage vehicles need tinkering at some point, part of the fun. I’ve owned and driven hundreds of FJ40’s from the rusted out pile sitting on a bucket to museum quality six figure units, this is an excellent truck for someone who wants to own the legend, likes the power of a V8 over stock, wants to get asked about it at every trail head or gas station, but does not want to spend an absolute fortune for a mint unit. I only restore 75-83 FJ40’s, 76 was the 1st year with all the desired components, then 77 got the pop out windows, huge improvement over the older FJ40’s. These trucks continue to increase in value every year with no end in sight according to several publications. Enjoy it, drive it, keep it nice, will be worth more when you move on down the road. I’m comparing this FJ40 in my description with some of the best in the world I’ve built, many would call this an exceptional FJ40, I’m trying my best to be as objective as possible knowing what mint really is. I have a clear clean WA state title in hand. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit immediately after auction conclusion. NO EXCEPTIONS. The rest check, bank to bank wire, or direct deposit to US Bank to my business. eBay bidders with less than 10 FB must email phone # before bidding. I welcome any 3rd party inspection during the auction at my shop under my supervision, not after the auction. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me in the phone book. You are welcome to inspect during the auction, I will pick you up at my local airport in Pasco WA. I have a shipping broker whom has shipped dozens of FJ40’s for me all over the lower 48, will pass on his info, or work with your shipper. I can get this to Hawaii or Alaska via barge as well, or to Canada. Vehicle and title do not leave my possession until paid in full. I’ve been selling vehicles on eBay for years, I plan to let the auction ride, but reserve the right to end it due to proper offer, happens a lot, eBayers winning the auction and not paying happens a lot, my intent is to sell this to the 1st serious party. I’ll make a fair deal on a good rig, simple as that, I’m not on a fishing expedition as seen on most eBay FJ40’s. NEXT UP FOR SALE ON EBAY…..1976 ALL STOCK MINT RESTORED FJ40, MUSEUM QUALITY, WILL BE DONE IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO. The pictures inside are under fluorescent lights and show the paint a brighter yellow, the pictures outside are a better representation of the color you will see in person. On Mar-06-14 at 14:41:20 PST, seller added the following information:I have the carburetor set up a little fat or rich, I always set these up that way because to keep the engine healthy. I can lean it out for more performance, but I prefer safe over a few extra HP. I will set it how you want it, timing for premium fuel right now.On Mar-07-14 at 18:25:14 PST, seller added the following information:I plan to let the auction play out....last second bids are common on a no reserve auction.
