Vehicle Detail

There are still some hidden treasures out there and this is one of them. This is a 1949 Chevrolet that has spent decades in storage with the same family. In 1949 Chevrolet produced a total of 6,006 wagons, 3,342 "woody wagons" and 2,664 "steel wagons". This steel wagon has been in the same family since new. It comes with the original purchase order and sales contract. The body on this car is rock solid showing no signs of any rust anywhere. Sure some of the chrome moldings aren't perfect, but with only one repaint done sometime in the sixties this car shows quite well after 64 years. The interior is complete and absolutely stock and untouched except for the red carpet that was laid down when the original rubber floor mat could not take the southern California heat any more. The seats still wear the same brown imitation leather and looks great after six decades. The headliner looks as though it was put in yesterday, being shielded from the sun all these years. The white vinyl with the wood cross bows and wood roof light mount show almost no age at all! It is just incredible that so much of this car is just as it left the factory. With such a low production run in 1949, one of these wagons was a rare sight, even back then. Stop and think, when was the last time you saw one, even in a show? This car comes complete with the third seat, all of the hub caps and fender skirts. After being stored for so long, it did require some work to make it drivable. After taking the fan belt off, the engine turned right over with no problems. The water pump and thermostat were replaced and after a complete cooling system flush and oil and filter it was ready for the next step. This consisted of dropping the fuel tank, having it boiled and relined and a new fuel gauge sender installed. Next all of the fuel line was cleaned and a new fuel filter and pump installed. This old gal fired right up after 2 turns of the starter! Now it was time to make sure it stops. New wheel cylinders and lines in the front and a rebuild of the master cylinder got this accomplished. The parking brake holds quite well, the clutch and transmission work just fine. This is a very rare opportunity to own the first post war style wagon from Chevrolet. We had the wagon recently inspected by the State and the title will be corrected with the manufacture serial vin number. On October 3rd when the wagon was purchased in Hollywood Ca. the engine number was used as the vin number. The new owner will have the corrected vin number when title.
