Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1972 Honda Z600 coupe in great rust free original condition. I acquired the car from the owner of a Honda dealership in central IL. When he opened his dealership in 1980 there were not many Honda cars on the road and his mechanics were standing around looking for something to do some days. So the owner bought this Z600 out of Florida and gave it to his mechanics and body shop and told them in their downtime to make the car new again. So over the period of a year or so his shop mechanics and body shop went through the car and they restored everything back to like new. After they were completed with the car it sat in the Honda dealer's showroom until he sold the dealership, then it went to the garage at his home. So over the years it has been driven occasionally and has been well cared for. It is in amazing condition compared to some of the examples I have seen for sale. This orange color is what the car came from the factory with. The underside of the car is in original condition, it was not restored along with the rest of the car, but it is only light surface rust. There are no rust holes in this car anywhere, it is completely solid and has never been in an accident. Everything on the car works and it starts right up on the first try every time. There are no fluid leaks on this car at all. This car has its original engine and transmission that it came from the factory with. It has 55151 original miles on it now. So in the 30+ years since it was restored some things on the car have lost their new appearance. The paint has some scratches and chips, the rear hatch area interior panel that covers the taillight assemblies is warped and does not fit perfectly, the rims have a little surface rust on them, the black plastic hatch surround has some cracks, the dash and speaker cover each have a small crack and the roof has some shallow dents in it from his grandchildren deciding it would be fun to get on top of the car. You can see the dents in the pictures, nothing major. It does have the original jack and a spare rim. Everything on this car is stock except for the main fuse in the engine compartment. I could not locate a fuse bar for it so I wired in a 45A blade style fuse. You get a box of extra parts too including an air filter, plugs, a shop manual and some other misc items. I have put about 500 miles on it since I have owned it and it is a blast to drive! Everywhere you go people will ask you what it is. From what I can tell there are not many of these cars around that are in rust free original condition. There was a restored one at Barrett Jackson that sold in 2010 for $27500 and this car is as close as you can get to that one without doing a full restoration on one. My reserve is nowhere near that number and the microcar market is hot right now so buy this one before they get really expensive. This car is only going up in value now. Here is your chance to own a great rust free, completely functioning, low mile Z600 coupe in the best of the 4 colors they offered. I have a clear IL title this car. All my pictures are at this link http://s265.photobucket.com/user/silamanajik/library/1972%20Honda%20AZ600%20Coupe Here are some stats on the car: Honda AZ600 Coupe: all were 2 doors with hatchback, 1971-1972, Colors only - Orange, Yellow, Olive Green, Blue. 1971 cars had 5 piece rear bumper (flat with 2 little over riders), the hood prop was hinged in the middle. 1972 AZ600's were modified to meet more DOT Specs, these upgrades included retractable seat belts, dash board warning device "Fasten Seat Belt", 3 piece rear bumper, 1 piece hood stick. The Honda 600 was the first car sold in the USA by Honda. It has a two-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine. In 1970, the Honda 600 Sedan was introduced, followed by the Honda 600 Coupe in 1971. Sales of both continued only through model-year 1972. Honda switched to it's four-cylinder Civic in 1973. The Z-coupe has front disc brakes in coupe only, factory tachometer, fully synchronized 4-speed transmission, factory radio with plus factory fog lights. The 600 was original available only as a two-door sedan, but for 1971 a two-door “Z” coupe was added. An estimated 15,500 coupes and roughly 35,000 sedans were built for 1972. The coupes carried a base price of $1,543, while the sedans could be had for just $1,395. The early-1970s saw the birth of a lot of compact cars, and few in the mainstream were more compact than the Z600. They were only 123.5 inches long, tipped the scales at 1,312 lbs., rode on a 78.8-inch wheels base and had a tiny 6.9-gallon fuel tank. Top speed, downhill with a tailwind, was about 80 mph, and fuel mileage was a stellar 40 mpg. The 600s carried a four-speed synchromesh transmission and front power disc brakes. The rear end had a rigid axle and leaf springs. The front suspension included struts and coil-overs. The steel unibody construction was mated to a small sub-frame in front. Everything rode on 10-inch wheels. "Nobody is quite sure how many Z600s are still around, but it’s not many. There maybe be some undiscovered cars hiding in garages and back yards, but for now, the best guess is fewer than 1,000 have survived, with only maybe 300 of the cars actually driveable." - qoute from an old cars weekly article.
