"Working Man's Jeep" 4 Cylinder, 5-speed Manual Transmission. 2" Ranchero Suspension Lift. 4x4 works great. This Jeep has been my daily ride for the past 7 years. I'm the second owner and it now has 235,000 miles on the clock. Just about everything on this vehicle has been replaced - some things more than once. This is the cleanest YJ you will find anywhere, at any price. Scrupulously well maintained, I have invested my time and money keeping this Jeep in top mechanical and structural condition. Maintenance and repair has been a passion of mine and it shows. I recently started a new job and my Jeep is no longer a practical vehicle for my needs. So I am divesting myself of my Jeeply possessions. It's a great machine - all gauges work and all dash lights work, aftermarket A/C blows spicy cold, original vinyl seats are in very good condition and I have just installed brand new seat covers. Rides straight at any speed, no "death wobble" or wandering steering. While this is a high millage Jeep, the engine runs beautifully, is well tuned and timed and has plenty of low-end torque. Starts on the first crank, idles smooth, never smokes or sputters. No leaks from anything anywhere and recent brakes provide good stopping power. The real jewel here is the undercarriage. Once a year I remove all traces of rust and brush on another coat of oil-based tractor paint. You will not see this kind of regular, sustained care anywhere else. This Jeep has been tweeked for easy maintenance (as an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure). All 3 seats can easily be removed for increased storage and greater ease of working under the dash. Fender flares are fastened with ALL stainless steel hardware for easy removal in washing road salt off at the end of the winter. Access hole in body for filling transmission fluid. I got tired of having mufflers and tail pipes rust out, so I carefully painted the last set with high-temp epoxy paint and they look brand new. MOJO The hard doors are late model CJ from Chrysler's Canadian market - they are the same as U.S. except they take a slightly different door lock cylinder (which I found out the hard way). I replaced the OEM YJ hard top with a CJ hard top because it is about 35% lighter and can be removed by one reasonably fit person - which is super handy. There is an aftermarket CD-player installed but it went on the fritz a couple of years ago. Driver floor pan was getting soft so I poured 3/4" of epoxy resin in place to firm it up. Turn signal does not automatically return from left hand signal position. Rear window uses a shim to stay open - no hydraulic lifts. It's not a Jeep without a little Mojo. THE BAD 5th gear is broken on the transmission - a common problem with AX-5's. The other 4 speeds work fine and I have been driving it this way for the past 7-8 months and you can too. Yes, that's it for the bad. You can purchase a remanufactured AX-5 off eBay for $600 with a one year warranty and swap in it yourself making or repair the extra one that comes with this sale and swap that one in. Either way, your getting a fully functional 4-speed right now. If you want to purchase a Jeep that has the potential go another 235,000 miles - this is the one for you. Most Jeeps are ready for the shit heap at 200K, this one has no end in sight. Valid inspection through the end of September. This YJ is a sweet ride and will make the right person very, very happy.
