Vehicle Detail
1982 HONDA CX 500 TC TURBO 14k Original Miles Rare - Outstanding Condition (w/ tip over damage). Produced by Honda for just one year, the CX 500 Turbo has developed a cult following worldwide. This was the very first factory designed and built turbo bike. I'm the original owner and have pampered and enjoyed this incredible Turbo since the 80's. I purchased the bike in '86 (on the original MSO) with a few miles on it from a New Jersey Honda Dealer who chose to keep the bike so he and his family could ride it themselves. I've always treated it as a collector's item and have ridden it sparingly and properly cared for it. It's been meticulously maintained and carefully ridden. It has been one of the nicest original, unrestored 500 Turbo's around. The bike was in near mint condition until it recently tipped over when the kickstand dug into my gravel driveway and landed on it's side. In my rush to pick the bike up, I tipped it over on the other side. I feel sick about the damage and have decided to sell the bike rather than repair it. The bike is in excellent mechanical condition with fresh Bridgestone tires. The bike has always been ridden as a "fair weather friend" and has under 15k original miles! I've over maintained it with synthetic oil changes every 1000 miles, fresh spark plugs every other year, waxed constantly, etc... Everything works properly, the turbo pulls strong and the bike handles and stops as it should. The cosmetics are really nice (less the tip over damage) since the bike was always kept indoors and waxed frequently. I never left it out in the sun when ridden to work since the day glow graphics are prone to fading. This Honda was always been correctly stored when not in use, the fuel tank topped off with stabilizer, cylinders fogged with light oil, the battery pulled, started and ridden a few times every year and was recently given a fresh update front to back. I recently: flushed all the fluids, changed the engine oil with Mobil 1 and a K&N filter, bled the brakes, installed a new gel battery, tuned it up with a new plugs and factory foam air filter, replaced the original tires & tubes, lubricated everything and took it for a shake down ride. There is no rust inside the tank. Includes original tool kit and owners book/manual. Also includes a factory brochure and magazines from the period. The bike starts right away, brakes hard, runs and handles excellent. It will be real difficult to let this one go but I am starting a business and need to cut back on the toys. This was an impressive offering from Honda back in '82. Noted for it's technical innovation with: Pro-Link air adjustable suspension, three piece Comstar wheels, anti-dive front end, a hollow rear disc brake, high-boost computer-controlled turbo with fuel injection, a comfortable but sporty riding position and great wind protection. A great example of Honda's brilliant engineering - it's said that Honda lost money on everyone sold and were offered only one per dealer. It's an absolute blast to ride with a great turbo kick, very stable handling and all day comfort. The stator is original and the charging system works properly. I've been aware of the know stator issue and have always run a 140 watt headlamp to avoid the heat build up from excess wattage. Using synthetic oil also helped to reduce overheating the stator. The bike is stock except for a Telefix fork brace, braided stainless front brake lines, a 140 watt headlamp and a louder horn. The damage will require the fairing to be repainted to be like new, new fairing decals applied (available from a third party), the brake and clutch levers replaced and the turn signal replaced. As it is, the bike works fine but will need the signal fixed to pass most state inspections. I could dismantle and sell the bike piece by piece for much more than my starting bid but would love to see the bike live on with a new owner. I prefer local pick-up but will be helpful in shipping the bike - with the understanding that the buyer assumes all responsibility for shipment. I'm located just outside Binghamton, New York about 20 minutes from Rts. 81 and 86. PayPal payment strongly preferred but I will take cash upon delivery. I will sell internationally but the buyer assumes all responsibility for shipping and import/customs obligations. My Condition Guidelines, important please read! In my 25 years of collecting, I’ve learned that condition grading is very subjective. My grading system follows many known guidelines and is an attempt to make grading objective. I grade all items using the same criteria; the item graded first using the scale below. Boxes or packages will be described but not graded. That said, please study the pictures and ask questions prior to bidding. A word on “Mint/ C-10” items – Mint items are the same as would be found in a store when purchased. Since many toys are mass produced and shipped around the world, they may not be “perfect” even when sold new. I only use the “Mint - like new” top grade when an item is as purchased and may not be “perfect”. I will add “plus or minus” or “.5” to a grade when an item doesn’t fit cleanly into any one grade category. Mint C-10 Like new condition Near Mint C-9 Appears like new with minor flaws, chips or scratches Excellent C-8 Minimal wear, some flaws, chips, rubs or scratches Very Good C-7 Used/played with, has noticeable flaws, several marks Good C-6 Well used, considerable wear and flaws but collectible Fair C-5 Rough condition, for restoration, parts or filler Shipping. I ship quickly and pack carefully. I combine shipping on most items. Items will be wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in durable boxes in most cases. I make every attempt to ship within 24 hours of receiving payment. I use the USPS for most items and UPS for larger and heavier items. Express shipping is available upon your request. International buyers. I ship to most countries using USPS First Class International. Please feel free to request a shipping quote prior to bidding. Duties and customs are the buyer’s responsibility. Shipping cost will be calculated at end of auction once your zip code or shipping zone is obtained. Shipping and handling will be at actual cost and includes the cost of packaging materials. Local pickup is accepted, payment due upon pick up. Payment. PayPal preferred. I encourage you to be an informed buyer, I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking!
