Vernon, Iowa as a service writer. I saw the Ford transport truck arrive at the Dealership one day with this beauty car sitting securely on the top rack. I purchased the car as soon as I could gather the down payment and have owned her ever since. The 1979 Mustang was the first year of the new Fox body style and was chosen as the Official Pace car for the 63rd annual Indianapolis 500. The last time Mustang was chosen to pace this race was in 1964. Ford only produced 10,478 Pace cars in 1979. Of those, only 2,402 had the very desirable 302 V8 with a 4 speed transmission like this car has. I have all the original paperwork, window sticker, warranty card, shop manuals, Showroom displays and literature, even the box in which the front valance came in. The car is in all original condition. The paint and decals are original and faded in areas after 34 years, there are also some rust spots (see the pictures). The car had undercoating in 1979 but the rear passenger wheel well must have had some missing areas (worst area). Ford also had a recall on the SROD 4 speed and I had them replace it in ‘85 or ‘86. It runs and drives well. Would make a great father/son restoration project and still turns heads today, just as it did back in 1979. The odometer has 105,267 miles on it and its time to let someone else enjoy this piece of Ford History. Options and Features on the car include: 5.0 L 302 V8, 4 Speed SROD transmission, correct and unique Michelin TRX 190/65 tires, Factory, removable sunroof with original storage pack, outstanding Recaro seats in black and white trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, factory Premium Sound System with separate power “Amp” switch, and rear window defroster.
