Vehicle Detail
Hello, Model A lovers! Here is my 1929 Ford Model A Sedan Delivery up for your consideration.History: This came into our family in 1965, when we rescued it from it's previous duty as a chicken coop! As far as I know, it has always been a California car. My Dad had it restored, and it was a great father-son project to finish-up the details. This was the first car I ever drove, at the age of 13. I actually got pretty good with the choke, non-synchro 3-speed, manual distributor-advance and double-clutching! It was used as an advertising vehicle in my Dad's printing company in San Francisco. I had it "freshened-up" in the late '80s with paint, tires, rebuilt engine, radiator, bell housing, clutch, brakes and have used it as a "weekly-driver" from the late '80s until recently. It has won prizes in local parades and exhibitions, and also at an event held in San Luis Obispo. Believe me, it's a l-o-o-ng trip from Santa Rosa and back, in a Model A; 570 miles, round trip. Only incident was overheating in Paso Robles, which was fixed by flipping the front license plate to horizontal.Condition: It is very close to original; with the exception of a supposedly leakless replacement water pump, fan blade, door sill plates and (working!) Houdaille-style shock-absorbers. Headlamps, bumpers, door handles and interior hardware has been chrome-plated. This has been a driver, not a museum-piece, so it comes complete with cracking tires, minor dings and paint chips, original mechanical brakes and non-power steering. Stops have to be anticipated. No keys for door locks. 6-volt electrical system and lighting is up to the original 1929 standard. Crank included, just in case! Heating comes standard, from the engine Cooling is accomplished by flipping open the windshield. It starts and runs fine, drive train is all good, and I hold the current California title, in my name. California Highway Patrol-issued VIN # is CA 459258. (Original number on frame is obscured by the body.)Unlikely that indicated mileage is accurate. If I had any control over its future, I would hope it would go to someone who can appreciate it for it's originality, rather than cut it up. There are other specimens out there for your street rod project. Other info: 300-cubic-inch, 40 HP, 4 cylinder flathead engine. Side-mount spare wheel, folding driver and passenger seats, chrome dashboard lamp, additional interior lamp in windshield header, adjustable windshield, working gas gauge, speedometer/ odometer with resettable trip meter, and electric wiper motor. Dual-beam bulb-and-reflector headlights, with parking lamps and tail and brake light Comes with all receipts, various parts, nuts & bolts, Service Bulletin book and other books, copies of "The Restorer" magazine, CD copy of 78 RPM record and sheet music of Walter O'Keef's 1929 song, "Henry's made a Lady out of Lizzie". (The change from the Model T to the Model A was quite a transformation!) If you plan to bid, PLEASE do both of us a favor by coming to inspect it personally, or by a trusted individual or appraiser. Pictures can sometimes hide important details. Test drives only by someone who knows how, please. Or be my passenger. This cutie is for sale locally, so auction may be terminated early. $500.00 deposit required at auction close; remainder upon transfer. Thanks for looking! On Jul-26-13 at 18:51:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Of Course, it has an original Ah-oOO-ga horn.On Jul-26-13 at 19:27:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Whoops! Typo! It's a 200-cubic-inch 40 HP flathead engine. Sorry. On Jul-27-13 at 08:50:42 PDT, seller added the following information: The present advertising and logos are on cling-on vinyl. Will peel off with no marks. Paint beneath is un-blemished. There are four tiny holes on each side, I assume factory-provided. for mounting a sign. Thanks for asking. On Aug-02-13 at 09:46:57 PDT, seller added the following information: I have just added more pictures. Somewhat hard to see, but the back cargo bed is made of closely-spaced oak (?) boards, running crosswise, with raised metal strips, running lengthwise, to enable flat objects to slide in and out. The bed is in excellent condition. On Aug-04-13 at 15:14:44 PDT, seller added the following information: I've been informed by a helpful Model A fan that the steering wheel assembly is from a 1930 - 1931 model. This was a popular upgrade, because it changed the ratio and made for easier steering.
