Vehicle Detail
Toyota Land Cruiser restoration shop offering this 1967 FJ45 pickup on a NO RESERVE Bid to Buy auction. I bought this truck from the original owning family in the high desert of southern Idaho. This truck has not been for sale since new, I found it in a barn when I bought the same family's FJ40 and Corvette collection. It took a big stack of 100 dollar bills for them to cut loose of it, and I had to buy everything else they wanted to sell. FJ45's are so special I had to have it. I've owned 25 or so FJ45 trucks, this one has the best body of any un-restored version I've owned or have seen. The bed and tailgate are incredibly clean and straight. Does not look like the bed has hauled anything over the last 46 years. I was told the original owner ( now deceased) drove this truck to town on the weekends just to piss off the guys at the coffee shop with the american rigs. Sounds like Idaho in the 70's and 80's to me. This truck has some great modifications to make it a fun daily driving vehicle. A cosmetic restoration would be very easy to complete on this truck, but I love the patina look of it and decided to keep it that way. This truck spent a couple months in my shop being built. I have 4 total Cruisers fpr sale on eBay right now from drivers to MINT, check them all out. FJ45 pickups were imported in very limited quantity to the US market from 1963-67. 1967 is the most desired year and features a removeable hard top. Cruisers in the 60's came with 3 speeds, drum brakes, low horse power inline 6 motors. I've restored a few back to that original spec, but they are not much fun to drive. This FJ45 has some nice upgrades just about everyone wants already done. MECHANICAL The motor is a high nikel content (3970010) block Chevy 350 with 4 bolt mains. Strong, basic motor with a Quadrajet 4 barrel, Ram Horn exhaust manifolds, out to true dual exhaust glass packs. I installed the largest electric fan I could fit with the most CFM to keep it cool. The transmission is a GM TH-350 automatic with a B&M slap shifter. The transfer case is the original Toyota. The rear end is the original 4.10 geared. The front end is a 4.10 geared disc brake fine spline 76 FJ40 axle. The axle housing has been "turned and cut" to provide correct drive line geometry for this lift. GM 1 ton drag links and high-steer with 1 ton GM power steering. Power disc brakes are a must on this type of Cruiser. Spring over axle lift kit works very well on this long wheel base vehicle vs a short FJ40. BDS shocks. Tires are super swamper 35/12.5/15, 1 finger turning with the 1 ton steering even with 35's. The only room for improvement I can find are the mufflers (glass packs) They are cheap and losing the packing, should be replaced eventually. BODY The body on any Cruiser is the most important concern. This truck is incredibly clean with no restoration. The bed and gate are near mint, the rest of the body is impeccable speaking Cruiser. All the body panels are original to this truck. A couple tiny spots of rust on the passenger side shown in pictures. Very easy to repair correctly, I did not do it as I thought I would just restore the whole thing once I got into it, making another mint vehicle in the high end market most can't or don't want to pay for. Floors solid, the extensive pictures will show it at every angle. These are very rare. I have this truck sorted out, but it is old and may need tinkering from time to time as all vintage rigs, that is part of the fun. I'll answer a question I get on vintage vehicles daily, No...I don't think you should drive this or any Cruiser 3000 miles across the country by yourself. Overland or in a group is the only way I do it. I've driven this FJ45 about 90 miles in 95 degree heat, everything went just fine, but that is the extent of known reliability. I believe this Cruiser to be a great driver for someone that wants a good looking truck without spending 50+k for a perfect one. I welcome 3rd party inspections during the auction. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in my area. As all vintage vehicle sales, it is sold as-is. I require a $1500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal immediately after auction is over. NO EXCEPTIONS. The rest within 5 days. I hold a clear clean WA state title in hand for this truck. I have a shipping broker whom I can put you in contact with or work with your shipper. If you are a new eBayer with FB under 10, you need to contact me with # before you bid. Unfortunately, most newbies don't come through, these auctions take a lot of time, I want them to go smoothly. Any questions? please ask! I set it up that way, want to be fair and make sure everyone gets a chance to own it. Bidding is usually in the last few minutes on this type of auction.
