Vehicle Detail
1979 Pontiac Trans Am A few of you have emailed asking about the status of this car... so I'm now relisting it.Up for auction is this sweet 1979 Black T-Top Pontiac Trans Am. I bought this car for $12,000 eight years ago from a guy in California who did most of the restoration work. The money I’ve put into it over these last eight years, has been under the hood, and on the underbody. This car is by no means a flawless show-quality car – but it’s certainly not a rundown rust bucket that needs major work either. If you’re looking for something to drive and enjoy, with minimal work – at a good price point - then this is TA for you. The Highlights: THE GOOD: Original Oldsmobile 403ci - 6.6 liter engine 88,172 original miles Body and interior restored eight years ago New brakes, rotors, exhaust system, battery, battery cables, idler arm, crank kit, gaskets, torque converter seal, brushings for the front end, cleaned carburetor. (all new within the last year) All lights & dashboard gages are in full working order – *** including the original AC Delco 8-Track player!!! (I can throw in a few 8-track tapes if you want) THE NOT-SO GOOD: Air conditioning does not currently work. Not sure if its the compressor, needs a recharge or what... I never got an estimate because there was always something else I wanted to get done Although the 8-track player does work – it tends to play tapes slightly faster than normal speed. There are a few nicks in the paint – and several paint bubbles on the hood. Most of the paint flaws can’t be seen from 10-feet away. They become apparent only as you get closer to the car for a closer look. There also appears to be some bondo work done on the passenger door. Like the nicks and paint bubbles - you can only really see this as you stand right next to the car. The T-Tops leak in the rain (as they all do) The AM radio does not work – FM works just fine THE HISTORY: Bought 8-years ago from a guy in LA – who did the entire restoration – new dashboard – new inside door panels – new headliner – hand sewn seats – carpet (not the best quality) – new paint – decals - all electrical work, interior & exterior lights WORK DONE IN THE 8-YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT: (I will provide invoices for all of the following) 2013: Front and rear brake pads. Front and rear rotors. All four exhaust pipes replaced. New battery. New battery cables. New idler arm. 2012: Engine work. Installed a .30 crank kit. New gaskets. New torque converter seal. New brushings on the front end. Cleaned carburetor. 2010: Replace pan gasket. Repair transmission fluid leak. 2009: Harmonic balancer. Timing chain & cover set. 2008: Thermostat and gasket. Fuel pump 2006: Front end coil springs. Oil pan gasket. Intake manifold gasket. Donut gasket. Exhaust studs. Oil filter. Antifreeze. 2005: Carburetor rebuilt and adjusted. New spark plugs installed. Choke thermostat. Primary pull off choke. Spark plugs. New front end tie rods 2004: Car purchased for $12,000 from California RESTORATION WORK PREVIOUS OWNER DID (2003-2004): (I actually saved the original listing when I purchased the car in 2004. This is some of what was in that listing) Up for auction is a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am SE WS6 Smokey and the Bandit Car. This is an original WS6 as verified on the build sheet but it is not a Y-84 SE. the car is supposed to have all the graphics according to the build sheet. The only things I have changed to make it look like an SE is the stripping, the gold dash, gold door panel birds, NOS gold Pontiac emblem on the nose, larger sail panel birds, gold bird shift button, gold bird horn button and gold wheel cap birds. Unless you look at the build sheet or the cowel tag under the hood, you cannot tell that this is not a real SE. I have restored, replaced or rebuilt almost every inch of the car. This car has the 2.73 rear end and gets about 16 mpg, pretty good for a 403. The transmission is the stock TH350. New tires. The wheels have the original medal center caps, not the cheap plastic ones. New shocks. The paint used was a black acrylic enamel with a catalyzing hardener in the correct L-19 Starlight Black. The car was stripped to bare metal and treated with a rust preventative etching primer, then a primer surface. After the paint hardened for a week, I color sanded then compounded with three different grade polishes and compounds to end up with the mirror finish you see today. The decals are from Phoenix Graphics and are licensed by GM. Door panels were purchased from Classic Industries. I also have the correct Fisher GM T-Top bags. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Included with the car will be all of the Pontiac shop manuals, as well as the car cover pictured. All receipts and invoices of all the work I have had done on the car. The original Pontiac drivers manual. T-Top bags. Upon close of the auction, I require a non refundable deposit of $500 through paypal or a cashiers check or money order sent within 48-hours. The balance is to be paid through paypal, cash, cahiers check or money order within 7-days. I will do everything I can to help coordinate shipping.
