1957 BMW R-series Motorcycle Frame up restoration on this 1957 R26 with matching frame/engine numbers. Project completed in the spring of 2012. Engine professionally rebuilt. Head and valve work completed by Randy Long (receipt.) Transmission refurbished by Bob Bancroft (receipt.) Engine and trans work completed within last 400 miles. Stainless spokes and stainless bolt kit (original bolts, nuts and washers saved.) All new electrical including wire harness, new old stock generator, ignition coil and voltage regulator. New bearings and seals installed in steering and wheels. Original Weinman wheels buffed, polished and trued with new tires. Speedometer rebuilt by Palo Alto (receipt.) Majority of replacement parts purchased through Bench Mark Works (receipts.) Original headlight bucket, handlebars, gas tank (no bondo), fenders, battery cover and air cleaner. Headlight mirrors, seat and tire pump are reproduction. Also have the original Schorsch Meier bench seat in very good condition. I have a 1978 title which was transferred in 1994 indicating 4148 original kilometers. The odometer was reset by Palo Alto to 5144 which was the reading at the beginning of the restoration. All invoices and receipts are available. This is not a 100 point restoration but it is a beautiful machine that runs great. The bike won 1st place in two local shows for best metric (non-Harley), the Great Lakes show in Plymouth, MI and the Washtenaw County show at their community college. It is a head turner everywhere it travels. If reserve is not met, the bike will be at the AMA Mid Ohio Swap Meet booth 89 July 18th, 19th, and 20th.
