Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on one of the Very Finest Vanagons. This one is totally rust free, very low miles for the year, pampered it's whole life, and brought mechanically to the highest level available. I have owned 4 Vanagons and a bunch of Buses, but this one is over the top cool. Bodywise, I removed all trim and had it repainted the with the existing factory Burgundy. Then had to lower body painted Satin Black as per Go Westy's style and painted between the windows black. This color scheme makes the van look longer and not so squat. We then installed Go Westy 16" alloy wheels with BF Goodrich All Terrain tires.. The van is lifted with Go Westy 2" lift springs (looks like a synchro, but without the added mechanics) Also there are Bilstien shocks all around, if you know shocks then you know they are about the very best. I installed Yak Racks on the pop top for canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, ladders, etc. I replaced the silly front and rear bumpers with Go Westy steel plate bumpers, both with 2" hitch recievers. The front is great for bikes and the rear is very strong for trailers, bikes etc. There is a very cool awning in the side housing. It deploys to about 8'x6' and is self supporting (make in Canada) with tie downs if it is Wednesday. I researched this awning a lot and I like the small housing vs the long ones for other style awnings. Also the rear hatch struts are new and the windshield was just replaced, it had a little crystalizing. Subaru SVX engine. This is ultimate Vanagon engine swap. This is a $12,000 option performed by several US shops. This engine, which came in the high end Subaru SVX sports cars of the 90's is probably a Porche flat six (the engine has made in Germany on many parts) and is a 3.3 liter, double overhead cam, 4 valve per cylinder, engine. It runs perfectly and is very strong. 230 hp, more than double the stock VW pushrod engine. I actually was pulled over the other day for excessive acceleration. But hill climbing and passing are a breeze with this much power. Mileage is about 17 mpg is driven mildly, buts that's hard sometimes, because it's so much fun to feel the acceleration. The Autotech (previous owner) that installed the SVX totally resealed the engine, new timing belt, and a long list of other replacements. I have replace the A/C compressor and the rack an pinion steering assembly. Other mechanical items are a valve under the dash to turn off the heater water in summer to avoid the annoying warm air flow. Simply turn it back on in the fall. Also there is a remote battery plug using a golf cart plug and a jumper cable attachment so you can charge or jump without having to remove the cover etc. I also replaced all of the rear lights with a much brighter set. The previous owner also installed a rebuilt transmission with taller 3rd and 4th gears. Very big item. I replaced the wimpy (especially with this much power) VW CV joints with the Go Westy Porche 930 Turbo Joints and axels. This required installing their new stub axels to accept the much stronger and larger porche joints, so obviously I installed all new rear axel bearings and seals. There was even an option to purchase the Chinese joints or for $200 more get the german joints, Duh?? German they are. This is still a very reliable (maybe more that originally) VW Vanagon that sleeps four, with double beds both down and in the pop top, a two burner propane stove, sink (new water pump) and frig (never have tried it) There are curtains all around, mosquito netting for the rear hatch, tons of storage, front seats reverse-great family camper especially with 4 bike capability and canoe on top.
