This is a 1968 Beetle with 116,000 miles. This amazing survivor was found in a concrete floor garage where it had been sitting since 1984. It was found by myself in 2009. The car was siting peacefully for 25 years with its original matching number motor sitting in the floor next to the car. The car dropped a valve in 1984 and the owner pulled the motor out and never touched it again. This car is in amazing condition with zero rust anywhere. The floor pans are perfect including the battery tray as the battery was removed when the car was parked. There is very minor surface rust that has crept under the paint which was resprayed in the late 70's. The paint job was about a 7 out of 10 and has light over spray on some of the window seals. Luckily the car was painted the proper color and no door, jambs trunk or engine compartment were painted.
This car would be a great candidate for an new paint job and new seals to make this car 100%. This car has all original interior except for the pass side heater channel was covered in red shag carpet. The heater channel is in perfect condition it just looks as if the owner had started to change the carpet over to shag and only got that far. This is a good thing as all of the other carpet is original. The shag on the one side gives it a little old school character. The seats and headliner and dash are original with the original AM radio.
The exterior of the car is in way above average condition, but does have it fair share of bumps and bruises. The original bumpers are pretty banged up and could stand to be replaced. The roof does have some wavy dents from items being stored on top, but not too noticeable.
Mechanically there was no expense spared putting this car back on the road. You can drive this car with complete confidence anywhere you want to go.
All parts replaced to make this car a 100% reliable driver are as follows:
The original matching # engine was completely rebuilt with the case split. New heater boxes, exhaust, generator, carburetor, electronic distributor, coil, cap, plugs, wires, and fan belt. New clutch, all 4 shocks, complete brakes including shoes, wheel cylinders, drums, hoses and master cylinder. New proper Firestone FR560's in 165-15 size where bought from Coker tire. All cables including clutch, throttle and heater cables have been replaced.
All electrical components work as the should and the car is complete with original spare with the windshield washer reservoir intact. This a an opportunity to save a lot of time and money over buying a rusted out shell that needs a bunch of metal work as well as the mechanical repairs that in he
end won't be half the car that this survivor is.
