Vehicle Detail

No rust, no rot, no Bondo… This is a 1964 Rambler American 220 series car with the Nash derived 195.6 cubic inch L-Head engine and 3 speed manual transmission. This was the last application of a flat head engine in any American made automobile. This was about as basic as transportation got in 1964. The car shows just over 29,000 miles. I was told it was original mileage, and after driving the car I can say with a fair amount of certainty that it is a true 29, 000 mile car and has not rolled over. This car is as tight as new and the engine, transmission, shifter and so forth operate like a 29,000 mile car. You can tell the difference. The car is in excellent mechanical condition. It starts up cold with a nice fast idle, blip the throttle and it settles into a smooth idle. It accelerates smoothly, shifts nice, drives and stops just like it should. All of the lights, signals, horn and gauges work. The vacuum wipers work as does the heater/defroster. No strange noises from the engine, transmission or rear end. It’s all just good. The body is very straight with only one ding above the right tail lamp, and a couple of tweaks in the rear bumper. Other than that the body does not have a ding or dent that I can find. The sheet metal is straight as an arrow and all seams line up correctly. The doors close easily, the windows all roll up and down and all of the glass is in real good shape. The floors, sub-frame and trunk floor are all solid and original. I have been all over this car with a magnet and can’t find any signs of bodywork, fiberglass, Bondo or even any patch panels. I am pretty sure it’s all original and rust free. The paint has a few stone chips in it but is very shiny and presentable. It was repainted at some point and is a slightly lighter color than the original Rampart Red (paint code 51) that’s under the hood. The interior is perfect. The seats, carpet, door panels, and headliner are all in fantastic condition. The tires are new. The exhaust looks fine and is nice and quiet. The brakes stop the car very well but I haven’t pulled any drums and looked at them. It has one small oil drip, probably from the rear main seal, but it isn’t significant. It’s probably about one bottle cap full a month. Other than that it’s nice and dry. Original owner’s manual included. The car has a transferable NY State registration. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I can transport within about 300 miles of zip code 14472 for $1.00 per loaded mile. If you have any questions feel free to send me an e-mail, but I can’t think of anything I’ve missed.
