Vehicle Detail
I am offering my 1970 BMW 2002 up for auction. This is one of two 02’s that I own and one of many that I have owned in the past. I love this car as it is one of the more sorted classic BMW’s that I have owned, but I am adding a Step nose Alfa to my collection, so being that I have another roundie, this one has to go. Let me start by saying this is an almost completely dry chassis. The only rust that I am aware of is a very small spot next to the tow ring on the spare tire well; I have a picture of it. This car has had a number of upgrades including a glass out repaint to the current metallic silver. The paint is good, not great, however very acceptable as a driver. The mileage on the chassis is unknown, and in California it is legally viewed as exempt as it is older than 10 years, so please don't ask. The interior of this car is very complete. The dash is almost perfect with only one crack on the top coming from the right most side of the passenger defroster vent, also in the pictures. Carpet is brand new, just installed it, and it is the proper multi piece glued in, not the cheaper one piece units a lot of people use. Before the carpet was installed, I put in three rolls of Dynamat to quiet it down a bit. It has E21 Recaro’s that I had upholstered with a plaid cloth down the centers and had the rear seat done to match. The headliner is all there with just one small tear, it appears to be the original. Everything works including all the gauges, the stereo (prewired for amplifiers under the carpet), the windows, seat adjustments, heater controls, etc. The steering wheel is a Momo Monte Carlo with a Momo shift knob to match, no console as I like the interior’s simplicity without it. The drivetrain is well done and is somewhat hot rod status. The engine was rebuilt about 5K ago and they used and E21 head, a Weber carb, and an MSD ignition. I just had my BMW guy do a fresh valve adjustment. The 4 speed has been swapped out to the popular 320i 5 speed unit and it drives the rear wheels through a limited slip rear end. The suspension is all Kmax with the front having full camber and caster adjustments. The battery is in the trunk mounted with a rear strut bar. Wheels and tires are brand new, maybe 200 miles on them. The wheels are Rota RB’s (Panasport style), and the tires are Toyo R888 R compound, and are very sticky. This car is one of the best handling 02’s I have driven. I have a whole set of very good trim that will go with the car that I haven’t taken the time to install yet. I just put in a set of H4 headlights that I had and the front indicator lenses and bumper are both Euro spec. I have driven this car quite a bit and I completely trust it, at least as much as you can trust a 43 year old European automobile. I wouldn’t have any reserves about driving it a long distance. I hope it stays in California however, it’s too nice to start rusting in a high moisture state. I have bought and sold a lot of cars over the years and I am privy to the scams and games that go on, so don’t try any. I have a clean California title in hand and I am happy to assist with the shipping anywhere you’d like once you’ve paid me. I will require a $500 deposit via Paypal 24 hours from auction close. The balance is preferred in cash on pick up. Please call me with any questions 916-873-0111, thanks for looking!
