Vehicle Detail
Now is your chance to own a truly classic workhorse of a pickup truck. Ready to be your Home Depot hauler, around the town cruiser or all-about daily truck, this 1972 "Highboy" Sport Custom package is a 3/4 ton, American steel beast of a truck. Under the hood with 80k miles showing on the odometer (needs new cable), factory 360cid backed up by a New Process 4sp granny gear transmission and NP dual speed transfer case. A beefy Dana 60 3/4 ton rear axle and sealed bearing Dana 44 with 4:11 gearing will pull a stump should you so desire, or take you four wheeling without worry that you have enough pulling power to get you through the toughest of terrains. Newly installed brakes stop this truck straight and true and the manual (only option on these trucks) steering turns with moderate easy with the stock tires in place. New shocks and stabilizer also help smooth the leaf spring ride, but if you are looking for a car-like ride, this is NOT the truck for you..... this was built to be a working man's truck. BRAND NEW Interco 7.50x16 bias ply tires (almost exactly like the factory tires you could purchase as an option back when the truck was new) await mounting on factory steel rims. Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers gives a reasonable roar and the body is just waiting for your favorite color of paint. Interior remains in its stock form (original seat but was recovered at some point in the past 40 years and has some wear on the driver's side as seen in photo and could stand a seat cover or reupholstering). Dashpad is in good shape (one small crack that is repairable and hardly noticeable). Factory running lights across the top, roof and rain gutter are without dents or rust. Tailgate is straight and rust free as well. Also included in the sale is an additional grille with silver inserts and a nice set of (4) '70s slotted aluminum mags (16.5x9.75) for a classic upgraded look should you choose to go that route as well as a new set of (4) Pacer aluminum rims currently mounted on 35x12.5 BFG all terrain tires (as seen in some of the photos of the truck they are worn but still drivable for a few more miles). As most of you know, these trucks sit some higher than a 1/2 F100 4x4 (the reason they earned the name "highboys"), but a previous owner installed an additional 3" lift kit on the truck which I am in the process of removing (rear lift is still in due to time to work on it) to put it back to stock height. The lift kit is of course include in the sale should you want to reinstall it at a later date. The cab and fenders are all solid (palm-sized area in both floorboards that have been patched but could have more done to them depending on your desired level of restoration). Doors shut smoothly with no gaps just like they should. If purchased at the "Buy it Now" price, a pair of original Ford stamped West Coast mirrors and set of belt line trim goes along with it to complete the Sport Custom look. She will need a new battery tray under the hood and could use new windshield gasket. The floor of the bed needs to be completely replaced with sheet metal (bed sides and wheel wells are rust-free but floor is toast due to a previous owner using a slide-in plastic bed liner. Included in the sale is another long bed with a super solid floors and in really good condition all around (see photos of separate Lunar green and Wimbledon white bed) for confirmation. This truck is not perfect and can use a good tuning, exhaust donut on one manifold, mild bodywork and paint if the buyer so desires or leave it and drive it as is. My latest build (1970 F100 4wd as seen in the last photo) is just an example of how this truck can look with very little attention and cost). So why spend $35k-$40k on a new 3/4 ton Ford when for pennies you can have an all steel classic American truck unlike your buddies at the bar. GA title in hand! Listed locally so bid now on this no reserve classic truck and all of the extras that go with it.
