Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this numbers matching, engine and transmission 1971 Dodge Challenger 340 R/T (JS23H) project car complete with fender tags. (no build sheet) From what I gather from the fender tag, the car when new was black with a gold interior and vinyl top. Not sure on the vinyl top color. It also was ordered as a stripe delete car. Having the R/T option the car came with the HP340 engine, HD torqueflite 727 transmission, big 11" drum brakes all around, front and rear sway bars, an 8 3/4" rear differential, dual exhaust, bucket seats and a rally dash with tachometer. Car also has power steering, power brakes and a "Slap Stick" shifter with console. As you can see from the photos the car has rust in the following areas: both fenders, both rear quarters, trunk floor, some around the left side window "A" pillar, small amount at rear bumper frame mounts, both front shock towers, bottom of the left side frame rail where it drops down and some at the left side forward sill area. PRO'S: The rocker panels and floors are solid except for small needed patch at drivers foot well. firewall / cowl look to be good as well as all cross members, rear shock mount support brace, torsion bar mounts, both rear inner fenders and rear leaf spring mounts to frame rails back to bumper mounts. Both doors are solid with no rust (skins recommended..bondo) and the performance bulge hood is perfect and in rust free condition. This car sat in a garage for 23 years with hopes of being fully restored by it's previous owner. But with a growing family and obligations it was decided it had to change hands. Now my plans have changed too, and this numbers matching black R/T car needs to go to a new home for restoration. Note: after 23 years, the car starts, runs and moves but can't be driven. (Limited Braking) Also, notice the 2 barrel carburetor and manifold that was installed. This was probably done back in the '70's during the gas shortage. Sorry, I don't have the original carb and manifold. Feel free to email with any photo requests or questions you might have. Thanks. Good Luck and Happy bidding.
