Vehicle Detail
This is the second time I have had to re-list this item because the person with the highest offer failed to pay. If you bid please be sure that you have the ability to purchase the car. Up for sale is a 1973 Porsche 914 in great condition. It has its original 1.7 Liter engine and all matching VIN numbers, no accidents ever. Factory sway bars, a set of 914-6 Fuch wheels, and a big bore kit were all put on the car by the Porsche dealership back in the 1970s shortly after the car was purchased. The sway bars make the already incredible handling phenomenal, while the big bore kit gives the relatively small 1.7 Liter engine quite a bit more noise and power than it originally had. The car is rust free. The only rust it ever had was a slight bit of surface rust inside the front and rear trunks and inside the front left wheel arch. All of the areas that had rust have been patched and painted over with black primer. New weatherstripping was placed on the trunks and the targa top this year, so there are no leaks at all. There is a very slight bit of surface rust on the back trunk lid (now holes, doesn't leak). I have had the hell hole, the rocker panels, and the jack ports all inspected- no rust, everything is as structurally sound as it was when the car left the factory. The speedometer drive in the car (back of the transmission) is leaking slightly. I think that it is just the rubber seals cracking (everything is original) but just in case I bought another speedometer drive to put in the car. This part will be included in the sale, to put it on you just have to unscrew the old speedometer drive and put this one in, you don't even have to jack the car up if you don't mind lying on the pavement. As a result of the speedometer drive leaking, the speedometer and the odometer in the car don't work right now. They stopped working in November of 2012 (when the leak started) when the odometer was at 93,*** miles. Those are the original miles the car has. The car has been driven on all of the nice days NC has had since then (it was warm enough to have the top off in December) so I am unsure the exact mileage it has now. I will estimate on the very, very high end and say 100,000 miles because I don't want to give too low a number and be wrong- I love driving this car so it is possible. The car has recently had all fluids changed by a Porsche mechanic, it has a new alternator belt, new vacuum lines, new filters, new weatherstripping, new speakers, and relatively new tires (about half a year of wear on them). The pictures of the car show it before I put the speakers back in the car (I was replacing the originals which were completely shot). The car now has new speakers, but still the original radio. The pictures show a few red scratches on the rear left fender, these are from where my neighbor scraped it with a lawn mower a year ago. All of the scratches are shown in the pictures, no damage was done. The paint on the car is still very good, but I wanted to repaint it sometime in the next year to go over the black primer in the front trunk and to touch up a few sunspots the car has on the rear trunk lid. The interior is very good for its age, the dash has quite a few cracks in it and the seats each have two tears. Everything is still fully functional. I have a clear title for the car, but it is not in had right now. I went to the NC DMW to have it inspected (apparently they had to check if all of the VIN numbers were matching to insure it wasn't a replica, never heard of this before?). After confirming that the car was an original 914 with matching VIN numbers the DMV told me that it would send me a new title in the mail; that was in March 2013 so I should be receiving it this week. The car is registered in NC and has current North Carolina tags on it now. This car has had a clear title from the day it left the dealership, it has never been salvaged or encumbered. The car runs and drives flawlessly, starts up on the first turn every time and is a joy to drive. The only additions to the car (sway bars, big bore kit, and 914-6 wheels) were all performed by Porsche mechanics and have been on the car for 30+ years now. I am the third owner, the second owner (who I know) had the car since 1973 (bought the car from the first owner less than a year after it left the dealership). The car has always been worked on by Porsche mechanics and received regular maintenance. Bid with confidence that you are not receiving a car that is a project or which will break on you sometime in the near future, this car has been well cared for and I hate to see it go. Thanks and Good Luck Bidding On Apr-04-13 at 19:41:46 PDT, seller added the following information: In answer to some people's questions, the car has stainless steel heat exchangers, not the original ones which usually rust. The heat will blow you out of the car.
