Vehicle Detail

Found in my "barn." I've had this R50 since about 1970. I bought it from someone who brought it from Holland. I'm never going to get around to getting it on the road again. It was last run before 1990. If I recall correctly, when it was last run it was stalled by putting Marvel Mystery Oil in the carburetors until the motor quit. So, with any luck, the inside of the motor is still oily. I have not tried turning it over. No battery. Mileage is unknown. Speedo is in kilometers and it is very likely that it has rolled over. Now to the plusses: It has decent tires on Weinmann aluminum rims. Seat cover was replaced (with a Denfeld cover) and has no rips. Rust in the usual spots, but the fenders and tank look OK and have good striping. I have a fair number of NOS parts; gaskets, maybe valves and/or seats (or maybe those go to my R75), some rubber parts, probably other small stuff. There are keys to the fork lock and tool box (the same, I think). Clear Massachusetts title, but I may have to order a copy. The buyer will get a good title with the bike. Available for local pickup in Boston suburb. I can help with packing if a distant buyer wants it shipped at his expense. As-is sale. I prefer cash or cashier's check (avoid Paypal fees!). Feel free to call (781 266 8802) or email. If you want pictures of specific parts/areas, please ask.On Apr-03-13 at 14:49:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I found a number of parts for this: NOS air filter, spark plugs, pair of footpeg rubbers. Used set of timing gears marked "-0," oil pump drive gear, breather plate, centrifugal advance unit. Maybe some generator brushes if I can figure out if they're for the R50 or my R75. Headlight bulb. On Apr-05-13 at 07:37:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Numbers match: 558 369 (in one of the photos). I haven't been able to confirm that I can get a duplicate title yet, but remain hopeful. On Apr-06-13 at 06:49:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Title finally found (whew!). It's from Ohio, 1971. I'll call the Mass. RMV to see if retitling is advisable. Also found a NOS front cover paper gasket. On Apr-06-13 at 12:50:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are some more photos as requested. The one of the frame ID plate is not too legible. Here's what it says: Baumuster R50 Baureihe 1955 Baujahr 1957 Hubraum ccm 490 Leistung PS 26 Fahrgest. Nr. 558 369On Apr-07-13 at 06:21:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I was asked about the frame number (as stamped in the frame, not the builder's plate) and I checked for it. I could not find any number at all on the frame near the rear shocks nor around the steering head. It's my understanding that the number should be stamped in the gusset that supports the shock absorber on the side with the kickstarter. If someone can suggest another place or more detail, please contact me so I can check. Though I have no reason to believe that the frame and motor have not been together since the bike was built (and I have owned it since 1971), I want to satisfy all bidders that things are as I have stated. On Apr-07-13 at 08:01:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I've been looking, but have not yet found the center stand; may not have it.On Apr-07-13 at 14:26:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I removed the tank and found the stamped frame number on the steering head. It matches the engine number and the builder's plate: 558 369. I've added a picture, which is hard to make out, but it's the best of a bunch of shots. You should be able to make out most of the digits. I think I'll leave the tank off until I hear from the winning bidder who may want to inspect the numbers before accepting the bike. On Apr-08-13 at 08:20:15 PDT, seller added the following information: The former high bidder retracted his bid after two days due to a "mistake" in entering his bid. In an Ebay Motors auction, a bid does not form a contract, so bids can be withdrawn for flimsy reasons. Clearly, his high bid was made to deter others from bidding - after all, his bid was so high. The winning bidder is, however, contractually obligated to follow through. It is dishonest and contrary to Ebay rules to bid when you don't intend to follow through. Above all, it is unfair to other bidders who are misled as to what the real bid situation is. If you have questions about this motorcycle, please ask them. The auction will be fairer and the likelihood of buyer satisfaction will be higher. On Apr-08-13 at 18:03:54 PDT, seller added the following information: There have been some questions regarding the title. I know it can be very expensive to finagle a title to an old vehicle, so I thought it would be best to scan the title and add it to the listing. Please see the pictures for it.
