Vehicle Detail
1973.5 Porsche 911T CIS Targa w/newly rebuilt engine This is one of the last 20 long hood 911T Targas off the assembly line, and it was delivered to San Francisco in July of 1973. The '73.5 is the most user-friendly long hood 911, one you can drive regularly and reliably. The fact that it is also a California rust free, unmodified, numbers matching 911 still sporting the rare Gulf Orange color it was special ordered with from the factory, makes this an ideal 911 to own. The fact that the engine is newly rebuilt is also a great bonus! Specifications: I have a friend at the Porsche factory in the Classic department who supplied me with the following info from the Kardex build sheet: VIN 9113112281Type 911214=911T/US Targa CIS engine 6136030 is original gearbox 731XXX date of invoice 01.July '73, delievered to San Francisco color 6110=gulf-orange interior 26=leatherette brown, seats leatherette brown Options G26(groupnumber contains 400=alloy wheels 6x15, 404=stabilizer front and rear 15mm, 426=chrome trims on wheel housings, 470=Comfort-equipment, 568=colored windows), 590=antenna left, suppression, 5-speed trans Owner History: I bought this car about four years ago from someone who inherited the car from their grandfather who had owned it a long time in the bay area. The car had been partially disassembled, the original gulf orange paintwork had been sanded down and a coat of black primer was applied. You can see these "before" pictures in the link below. There was no paperwork with the car except for an owners manual and some old registration receipts from the late 90s. I do have receipts for all of the restoration parts and work since I've owned it. The last sticker on the California blue plates is from 1999. I searched for years to find an original Gulf Orange 911 as I love the early 70s Gulf Orange and blue scheme that the Porsche race cars used at that time...I even painted my garage in those colors! The car underwent a long restoration under my care, and I intended to keep this car, however I am having to sell some of my 911s to fund a real estate investment. Body Condition: A California car since new, this car is amazingly free of rust. The rust free underbody, fender cavities, torsion bar areas, and rocker panels are what you would expect from a lifetime California car. All body panels are original and there is no sign of any major accidents.Evidence of the original Gulf orange paint can be found in the trunk, interior, engine compartment, and small areas where the undercoating has flaked off. The front pan was replaced with a quality Restoration Designs pan due to the usual battery corrosion. Battery boxes are still original and solid! I did not have to do any rust repair on the original bodywork when it was repainted, and body filler was only used to repair a few minor dings. Evidence of the original Gulf orange paint can be found in the trunk, interior, engine compartment, and small areas where the undercoating has flaked off. Original undercoating in all areas except the rocker panels and front pan area. Beautiful Gulf Orange paintwork done two years ago. It was a thorough, windows out, trim off, doors/hoods/fenders off repaint, but it was not stripped down to the metal. There is only the original Gulf orange paint, primer layer, and the current paint it has now. Paint was the Deltron base coat/clear coat system, one of the higher grade PPG paints. Every single seal was replaced in the car with new OEM Porsche seals, including the $$$ Targa bar seal. Chrome work is in excellent original condition with no pitting or corrosion.Brand new Euro H4 headlamps. Genuine Fuchs 15x7" forged wheels. While this car was ordered with 6" Fuchs, the original ones were stolen at some point and when I bought the car it had fake 6" Fuchs. 7" Fuchs were a factory option in 1973 and I think they look great. The rear package shelf is completely rust free. You can see evidence of the original Gulf Orange paint. Targa top was recovered and the headliner replaced. For more details, follow the link below for more pics and detailed body descriptions. Interior Condition: When I bought the car the previous owner had installed 80s Recaro leather seats, but he also included the original seats. Though the Recaros are comfortable and I prefer their comfort to the stock seats, I put the original seats back in because most buyers prefer them. Brand new domestic cut pile carpet from AppBiz. Original seats are in good condition except for some wear on the driver's bolster and a small split in the driver's seat bottom. Door panels are aftermarket and the door pockets are missing. It does have the original armrests/door handles. Windows and door latches work great Original dash was fine when I bought it but the painter left the car out in the California sun during the summer and it is now cracked in many places. It has a cloth dash cover that hides the cracks. Mechanical Condition: Engine just rebuilt by Don Kravig at Precision Motion, a Porsche shop near my house with an excellent reputation. See the receipt in the pictures link below for details. The engine is under warranty for one year! The engine ran well when I bought it, but the mainshaft bearing had play and was loose. Don recommended we refresh the engine since we had to split the case to replace the loose bearing. This car now starts, runs strong, and drives like a proper long hood 911 should. New clutch and CV axles.Chain tensioners have guards installed. 915 5-speed transmission shift perfectly with no grinding or whine in any gear. New master cylinder, brake lines replaced, fresh brake fluid Has a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler that sounds great! Odometer reads 98,000 miles, but true mileage is unknown and there are no records. Overseas Buyers: Please bid with confidence...I have sold several 911s overseas and both myself and the buyer had a good experience each time. I just sold this other 911 last month to a buyer in New Zealand. He was very happy with my detailed description and gave me positive feedback: www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-911T-/290830960991 I can also transport the car to any of the exporting companies in Long Beach, CA for no additional cost. Links: LOTS OF ADDITIONAL PHOTOS!!! Make sure to read my captions under the photos for all the details. Click here to see photos of my other Porsches Terms and Conditions: No Reserve. Please do NOT ask for a buy it now price! This auction will be completed and will NOT be ended early. This is so everyone has a fair shot at the car. Car may be viewed by appointment. It can be driven around my neighborhood, but car is on a non-op registration so it cannot be street driven. Additional pictures and info by request. Full payment by wire transfer or cashiers check within three days of auction end. Title will be signed and mailed to winner on the day of receipt of funds. All funds must clear my bank account before the car is released from my possession. Thanks for your interest, and happy bidding! On Mar-27-13 at 02:20:24 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to upload a photo of the engine rebuild receipt, I have now done so. The body shop hadn't aligned the hood, front fenders, and doors as well as I liked, so I had Precision Motion readjust them a little (see item on reciept). I will upload more detailed photos on the body panel alignment before the auction ends...the panel gaps are now as they should be. On Mar-28-13 at 20:04:38 PDT, seller added the following information: I added more pictures of the body panel gaps and VIN, color code, and engine numbers, and other areas as requested. I forgot to mention that the car still has its nice original orange hood badge. The car is currently on a lift at Precision Motion for a few bidders who wanted to inspect it. A few issues have been noted during the inspection. The heater blower doesn't work. The engine heat shield isn't in good shape...I will replace it with a new one before the winner gets the car.The car has Koni yellow shocks, not Koni reds. One of the rear reflectors has a crack...it will be replaced with a good used one.The windshield washer system isn't plumbed or working.The. At has a new single Bosch battery. The plastic pedal covers are missing...I've always preferred uncovered metal pedals.
