Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1986 Chevy Caprice Classic 4-Door Sedan 5.0. My Story I purchased this Caprice in July of 2010, and registered it in August of 2010. The dealer I bought it from got it from a dealer auction in Portland, Oregon Jantzen Beach area. He had it way in the back of his car lot, and had more modern cars like 2000 or newer. I inquired about the car and purchased it stock, with about 7,500 miles on it. Since then, I have worked on it, and driven it, and have noticed that I just about broke it in. I have a tremendous body of archives, I have had done, or done myself as I have driven this vehicle. It was a fun project car that I feel is too hazardous, and a vehicle difficult to preserve here, for a normal person……For sure, you gotta be rich to preserve it here…..And everyone knows it is my car around here……I get cell phone calls “Are you on Sandy Blvd. now? I think I just saw your car.”…..Sick of it! I have gotten all kind of compliments, from a spectrum of all different people, cops, old people, young people, white, black, women, foreigners……..all kinds of people. I never thought I would get all this attention, and never wanted it. I just wanted a solid, customized, Chevy……… I realized that if I saved it, the Caprice will just rust out with all the fluids in it, or just sit and rust in this Portland, Oregon rain. I also realized that driving it is a hazard. Everyone seems to speed up on my tail or in my blind-spot to look in the car. So through those realizations, I would like to offer it to an American that can preserve it, or just run it all around the corn fields, do a some cookies………Ha-Ha! The Bad There are some minor things that need attention, on this car, and I want to be honest as this is a vehicle I have driven the last 2.5 years and gotten to know……….First of all, the car needs a new headliner…………. Over the years, the stock headliner began to sag, so I foam fasted a material as a temporary fix to the headliner issue. These cars all have headliner issues, so I would like to think that I did a better job that putting disco balls on it……..Ha!.........So someone trained in headliner work needs to do some work to it. Second, the reverse lights do not turn on. I think it is the bulb, as I never have figured out how to access them………..And last, the windshield wipers seem to not turn off, when the car is driving, sporadically…. I have come to realize that it is a computer thing; combined with the amount of work those wipers have put in the Pacific Northwest, over the last 27 years. ……The windshield wipers function, and function well as this is Portland, but they seem stay on sometimes….. Sometimes the wipers turn off, but sometimes they don’t, while driving. It seems to depend on how long the motor has been run also. They turn off late when driving a lot, on a day. But the wiper motor won’t turn off when in the morning and it’s the first start of the day, for example. I freakin’ don’t know what that is, but never got to it because they are on, or off around here……. My records of work = I changed the Thermometer, and did a radiator flush on 9/6/2010. -Air Filter 0n 3/20/2011-Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve changed new, and all three belts on 08-10-10 -Changed to 8 NGK Spark Plugs, on 8/30/2010, gives it that “umph!!!!” -Found out that “umph!!” caused heat, so I switched to Premium NAPA Plug Wires on 5/21/2011, and did the ignition timing also. (don’t have a record of that, just proof the engine is timed.) -New Fuel Filter 9/1/2010 Thrust Angle Alignment 0n 08/10/2010, AND 2/06/2012. -Automatic choke replaced new- 9/9/11 would take a long time to warm up, thought it was because the motor was more solid, no it was the Automatic choke……. -Aux capable Pioneer Stereo 5x42, 2 6x9’s, and dash speakers, also new Pioneer, installed professionally 9/12/11. Also had the Bass elements of wiring prepared, so this vehicle is wired to bump!!!! -Center caps, Cragars, purchased off E-Bay (set of four) on 7/23/2011 -Passed Oregon Emissions 09/19/2012. I have an archive of all oil changes I have done, except one, as I needed to give it to that State of Oregon to pass Emissions….. 11/23/10 @ mileage 9,625 02/07/11 @ mileage 12,114 4/18/11 @ mileage 15,356 6/20/11 @ mileage 18,219 08/28/11 @ mileage 21, 195 10/21/11 @ mileage 24,241 1/8/12 @ mileage 27,280 3/22/12 @ mileage 30,777 5/24/12 @ mileage 33,475 around Sept. 17th @ mileage 36,000 to pass Emissions (put a heavier weight.) 02/2/12, like two weeks ago, @ mileage 39, 028………”Get er’ Done!!!” I also have the receipts, for the tranny filter and all four brake pads, which I bought in August of 2012. I have added on four wheel adapter, and four 14-inch Cragar Street Star rims (with their original lug nuts,) which I personally bought from a family friend for $850.00. I will include those, as I would like to keep this intact as it leaves my driveway. I have the original spare tire, which it clean as a whistle, and any other stock parts I have kept to include in this purchase. For example, that light in the back window, the stock speakers, the stereo wires and knobs, manuals……stuff like that. Bid with confidence, as my E-bay history is pretty decent. I usually deal with magazines, but thought I would just give this a whack. Please E-mail any questions you may have, and I will give you my number if you have a list of questions……..Good luck!
