Vehicle Detail
Up for grabs is my beloved ’55 Fairlane 2 door sedan taildragger/ mild custom. For all you sharp eyed gearheads out there, it looks like a ’56 because of the side mouldings. This baby sits low, it has the classic tail dragger stance. Lowered 3” in back and 2” in front. This car gets TONS of attention, it just seems to make people smile. It’s loud, low and pretty damn quick. This is a great looking ride, but i will do my best to be honest about its condition. I have personally been misled by other people's listings and it did not make me happy. Lets start with the body/paint. Body is in very good shape, though not show quality. The same can be said for the paint. Body looks as though it could have been blocked a little better, and the rocker panels are not perfectly straight (see pics) . The paint would definitely benefit from a wet sanding as there are some small blemishes and orange peel. There are some very small paint bubbles on the bottom of the drivers door (see pics). The car still shines up really nice and presents really well at cruise night or the local show, though it won’t be bringing you home any trophies. All stainless is in good shape, and will shine up pretty well, the only serious trim damage is a ding in the moulding around the rear windshield (I’m pretty sure it could be tapped out, but have not tried). Chrome is decent, though the front bumper is getting tired. The rear bumper has fresh chrome and looks great (note that some of the pics are from last year and show the rear bumper in paint, the rear bumper IS chrome) Windshield and driver/passenger door glass is new. The rest of the glass appears to be original but in good shape. No cracks or chips. Wipers work. Weatherstrips are holding up pretty well. Interior is a mix of original (dash and gauges) all functioning and look good. Headliner is a little faded but no tears and not sagging. Carpet is newer and in great shape. Seats are from a 80’s vintage Cadillac and are that really plush velour type fabric. Front seats have functioning power adjust. Door panels are custom utilizing the old ext. door trims. Motor is a pretty fresh Cobra roller 5.0 out of a ’93 Cobra mustang. It was rebuilt approximately 18,xxx ago (i was told), and runs real strong. Heads are gt-40 3 bar irons heads. 1.7 RR, Lunati cam (lopey idle). Headers, chrome dual plane intake, new distributor with adjust on the fly dial. Q jet carb. Trans is C4 with shift kit, all rebuilt and shifts very nice. Shifter is a ridiculous 32” high, and is a lokar model. Rear end is original to the car as far as I can tell, and it is a 1 wheel wonder. Motor has a verrrry slow oil drip, the car has been sitting for 3 or so months, and left a stain on the garage floor about the size of a quarter-- I think it might just be the drain plug, but cannot confirm. What not and what have you….. Drum brakes. Front wheels are Torq thrust, rear are original steel. White walls are the removable port o walls. Cheap tires, but plenty of tread and not dry rotted. No rust, other than typical surface rust on undercarriage. NO RUST through any metal. 2 seatbelts in the rear for the youngters Side pipes are live, rear pencil tips are dummies. Speedo works but not totally accurate, needs different gear to match. Odometer does not work. Fuel and all other gauges work. Converted to 12V (except original AM radio) CD player/ radio speakers all basic quality but are audible over the glass paks. The car runs drives and stops just fine. I’m positive I’ve missed some info, please ask away, and I’ll update as soon as possible. PLEASE come look at the car before you bid as every car guy has a different definition of "good" or "great" condition. I am not looking to make money on this car, reserve is set for less than I have into it. I know times are tight guys, but I wont give it away either. Car is listed locally, so I might yank the ad early if it goes that way. Thanks for looking, good luck, Merry Christmas, Ben Keywords hot rod rat rod low rider tail dragger custom crown victoria classic muscle vintage On Dec-31-12 at 08:10:19 PST, seller added the following information:
