Audio Player Copyright 2009 Ver2.04 You are bidding on a beautiful 1967 21 Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus – a Samba Bus – classically restored with great paintwork in original colors, a hand-made original-style interior from Lenny Copp and the crew at West Coast Classic Restorations, safari windows, upgraded mechanicals – and yes, it was born with that cool ragtop sunroof and those little roof windows that VW fans go nuts over. I bought this neat Samba a couple of years ago with the aim of doing an interior re-do and bringing the drivetrain up to spec, and now that I’ve finished, I am pleased to bring this great machine to auction. It still has all of its factory sunroof-deluxe features with many factory original items like deluxe bumper and beltline trim, plus new interior and new sunroof canvas, period correct radio, original ashtrays that were re-chromed, and a deluxe clock that actually works!. It is a special machine – an impressive, appreciating collectible that would be an asset to any private collection – fully functional with many years of appreciation ahead of it. Vintage Volkswagen Samba Busses are in big demand today because of their increased desirability. This one is an absolute treasure, and I believe it will surely please the lucky winner of this auction. Major advantages: · Excellent paintwork – Beige Grey over Titian Red – full of radiant color that screams FUN! · New Blue Grey/Dark Grey interior by Lenny Copp – with all seats – clean and correct! · Freeway flyer gearbox and front disc brakes. · The absolute coolness of that retractable factory sunroof and deluxe roof windows. · Safari Windows with chrome frames by Wolfgang International. Other special items: Chromed Safari window frames. Original flawless dash – still gleaming and simple. Original deluxe clock – working! Original Jailbars on rear windows. Original luggage bar above rear seat. Original front, middle and rear seats. Original floor mats, color-keyed (brown) to body color scheme. Original seat stand mats. Original bumper trim with rubber inserts.. Original beltline trim – with red vinyl inserts. Original Sunvisors. Original drink bar trim. Original rear kick panel New middle-seat kick panel by Clara Williams. New interior panels with chrome accents, by Lenny Copp New seat covers, by Lenny Copp New Hella front turn signal lenses. New German square-weave rear hatch carpet. New Sunroof canvas by Lenny Copp. New color-keyed seatbelts. New elephant-ear outside rear view mirrors with black arms. New original-style ignition keys, cross-keyed to all doors. Newly re-chromed dash ashtray. Newly re-chromed drink bar ashtray. Beautiful color-matched seat cover piping. Dyna-Mat soundproofing behind all interior panels. Period correct Blaupunkt radio (inoperative). Mechanically, the drivetrain and all other mechanical and electrical systems have been upgraded, inspected, and adjusted. As a result, you will experience the authentic ride and drive that you would have been expected in 1967, but with extra power in fourth gear. You can hop right in, turn the key and go down the road confidently. It has a 1500cc engine – 44 horses eagerly await you. It has a freeway flyer gearbox mated to its original reduction boxes, making safe top end cruising speed approximately 65-70 mph (as opposed to around 55mph in original gearing). Here is a summary of work routine work recently performed: Fresh oil New Bosch plugs New points Valves adjusted Brake system inspected and adjusted. Carburetor cleaned and adjusted. New nosecone and transaxle saddle mounts. New fuel tank, fuel sender and rubber collar seals. New flywheel seal. Reduction gearboxes re-sealed. New battery tie-down. Exterior-wise, this attractive 21 Window Samba Microbus was disassembled and painted inside and out in its original color theme that will draw the eye of every onlooker who passes by. The paintwork is excellent and it has maintained its brilliance primarily due to original quality of the job. There are a few dings and touched-up chips that are present but they are practically imperceptible, and I do not believe they detract in any way from the beauty of this great Samba Microbus. The bumper blades, guards and overriders were removed during restoration. The original restorer dismantled the cab doors to refurbish the vent wings and the pop-out window frames, and the result is additional flash to support the attractive paintwork. All of its original deluxe beltline trim, rocker spear trim, and trim end caps are present and accounted for, along with their red rubber trim inserts. It looks phenomenal as you can see from the photos. Interior-wise, you will find one of the cleanest Samba Microbus interiors available on the market today – done in Blue Grey-Dark Grey with Beige Grey seat piping and chrome panel inserts, all newly handcrafted by Lenny Copp and the crew at West Coast Classic Restorations in Fullerton, California. All three rows of seats are present with original grab bars on the middle seat. You will find no rips or tears on these beautiful seat covers and interior panels. The headliner is a perforated vinyl reproduction and is in good condition with no rips or tears. Covering the floors are the rare factory original brown rubber mats, along with the seat stand mats that the bus was born with. German square weave carpet covers the rear deck luggage compartment and a new sunroof cover adorns the top, all courtesy of Lenny Copp. Original deluxe jail bars and rear seat luggage bars. The original Golde sunroof mechanism is in good working order, seals tightly. Here is a point recap of its custom interior: Original cab, middle and rear seats Original middle seat grab handles. Seat coverings in Blue Grey-Dark Grey, color-matched Beige Grey piping. Interior panels with chrome molding inserts and piping color-matched. Original chrome cab and passenger door handles. Original sunvisors. Nice headliner with no rips or tears. Two color-keyed lap seat belts in cab, three more on rear seat. Original jail bars and rear seat luggage bars (deluxe-only features). Original rear kick panel with aluminum trim. New middle seat kick panel with original aluminum trim. New rear hatch carpet. New Sunroof canvas. Speedometer/odometer and dash indicators all work properly. Working windshield wipers and horn. Dash is beautiful. Restored steering wheel with no cracks. Electrical system is the original-for-1967, more reliable 12-volt system. Interior and exterior lighting: low and high headlight beams, turn signals, front and rear dome lights, dash indicator lights are operative. All doors, including passenger compartment doors, cargo and engine doors open and close properly. All door locks function properly and are cross-keyed to original-style ignition keys.
