Vehicle Detail
This is my "1976" Land Rover Hi-Capacity Pickup truck which is currently Titled in CA. If you are looking at this truck you know how rare it is to find one of these trucks in the USA that is in good shape and ready to drive anywhere. You should also be familiar with the VAT situation the UK. It is common for Rover owners to take an excellent older chassis, like a 1976 in this case, and attach a new cab/body(1985 Defender) to the older frame. That is how this vehicle came to my attention. I imported it from England about 3 years ago and went through all of the hassles with the department of transportation/Customs/DMV etc. It is all handled now so the exchange of title should be as simple as selling any clear titled used car in CA. I have enjoyed owning the truck for the past 3 years and it has served me well. I have never been stranded anywhere, it gets decent mileage in the high 20s depending on load and road conditions. The truck is RHD. I had never driven a manual transmission from the right side prior to picking up the truck at the Port in Southern CA. It was a breeze to shift from the start and I have never had any problems adjusting to the difference from LHD to RHD. I routinely drive the truck between my main residence in Redlands, CA to the beach in Carlsbad CA(150 miles roundtrip) with no issues. I have used the truck on fire roads and trails in the Big Bear CA area and it has preformed very well. I also own a Defender 90 and the difference between the 90 wheelbase and the 110 is dramatic off road. The extra length really makes for a more pleasurable experience on trail. During my 2 years of ownership I have changed the oil, filters and other fluids as necessary. The truck currently has a small electrical problem that doesn't allow the indicator lights to work or the heater fan. I believe it is a faulty rocker switch but I haven't been able to source a replacement. Living in Southern CA the truck has not been exposed to extreme weather during the past 2 years. It does still have some isolated rust issues that came with the truck from South Hampton, England. I have taken pictures of the areas but I have seen much worse on other trucks when I was in the market for this one. Like all Defenders there is rust at the bottom of the doors. They are not completely rusted out but there is a hole at the corner in each door. The other location is at the bottom of the windshield where the door frame meets the windshield frame. The engine is the non-electric 2500cc turbo diesel which is often preferred for off road enthusiasts as it is easy to repair and troubleshoot if you find yourself far off the beaten path. The transmission is a 5 Speed manual which will cruise at 70 mph on the highway. Both high and low 4WD gears work well. As you can see in the photos there is a Genuine Land Rover Canopy and frame included in the sale as well as a spare tire. The canopy and frame are easy to remove and store, it is a very high quality piece of equipment.
