A very original Matching Numbers & Original Colors 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Roadster “Pagoda” Chassis No. 11304412017381Engine No. 130 983 12 011303 Body No. 02022 • Increasingly Desirable Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda! • Date Coded Wheels, Tools, jack, Hardtop, & Accessories! • Matching Numbers as confirmed by the Mercedes Classic Center! The Mercedes-Benz 230-280 SL series continued the tradition of the sporty open convertible of this famous German manufacturer. It was the successor to both the 190SL and the legendary 300SL Gullwing. Today, its popularity as a classic is increasing. It is nimble and practical while the styling is delicate and well-balanced. All this translates to increasing prices on the classic car market for these cars, especially for the 280SL model. Great as an all-weather year-round driver, the example offered here its original color combination of Horizon Blue (#304) paint over dark blue upholstery and carpeting, well-appointed with an automatic transmission, (working) Frigiking A/C and period Becker Europa among other features. The 280 still retains the majority of its original trim and equipment, untouched over the years. Both correct bonnet and deck lid body numbers remain visible. The body number is also on the base of the hardtop. It received an exterior re-paint several years ago in the original color. The cabin is very clean and complete, showing well for it age and originality, with wax pencil markings and tags in their original locations. We found a date sticker (April/1970) inside both seat between the horsehair padding. The rest of the interior is very nicely detailed and with correct working Becker Europa Radio and VDO clock. Mechanically, the Mercedes performs well and drives nicely. The engine bay and undercarriage appear very correct and nicely detailed. The car starts without any hesitation and feels very good in acceleration, braking, and handling. The A/C is working as are the gauges, horn, and lights. Not a $100k trailer queen but a great driver example nonetheless. Correct mat, date coded spare with cover, original tool roll and jack reside in the trunk. The body gaps are even and the body is very straight. We have pictured notable cosmetic flaws in the ad. The hardtop is in good original condition. Inspections welcomed.
