Vehicle Detail
1972 Oldsmobile "Real" 442 with the numbers matching Big Block 455 This is a true"U"code 442! The U located right in the center of the vehicle identification number stipulates that this model was ordered from the factory with a 455 cubic inch engine. How rare is that?? Well, I'll explain how rare this 442 really is! As can be read in one of the articles listed in a picture down below, ONLY 7% of all 442 models ordered in 1972 came with the highly sought after 455 "Big Block" that makes this a very rare true 442. Isn't it about time you started enjoying your money while it makes the high dollar interest you deserve?? In this economy it has been proven to show that low miles, nicely optioned, original numbers matching 442's have consistently risen in value. Every 6 months the values listed down below have kept rising. Now is the time to put your hard earned dollars to work for you while you enjoy your investment. This car was purchased from a police chief in a small town in Western Illinois. He had known the family of the original owner for over 30 years before he was able to acquire this sweet numbers matching big block 455 442. The open, clean, and clear title from 1974, shown in the pictures, will go to the highest bidder. This was the first title I have ever seen that has Cutlass 442 listed as the model for 1972. Usually every title has just plain Cutlass listed under model regardless of the state of registration. Therefore, that proves this sweet Oldsmobile was factory ordered as a 442 model. Furthermore, the original build sheet verifies this 442 to be an authentic big block 455 car. The two prior owners and myself have always kept this gem in a garage. The mileage is completely original at just over 63,000 miles. In my opinion this 442 is a step above daily driver condition. Many people may look at this 442 as a show car. It does appear that nice, but I do not, so let's stick with a really really nice daily driver. The chrome is all in very nice drivers quality condition or better. All of the panels line up very well, and they are all believed to be original. I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in any type of accident. The doors open and close as if this car were new, and both doors have GM chrome door edge guards to keep them nice. The vinyl top was replaced this past summer with the period correct white vinyl top material to make this beauty really stand out. This numbers matching 455 big block L-75 has 270 net horsepower with the original Turbo 400 transmission. It is extremely hard to find a low production big block numbers matching classic muscle car nowadays. This 442 has had only one re-paint since this car was purchased new in 1972, and shows very well. This car is for the guy or girl who had one in high school and would like to revisit the past, or for someone who simply likes to drive around and enjoy their hard earned money while their investment grows. The original 1972 442 owner's manual, consumer information pamphlet, and the maintenance/warranty information manual are also included in the glove box. The motor oil, oil filter, anti-freeze, differential gear oil, and the air filter were all changed to prepare the car for sale. This 442 starts right up every time and drives down the road straight as an arrow and steers with finger tip control. This classic Oldsmobile has some very rare options for a 40 year old car. It has the Genuine GM steel framed factory W-25 forced air induction Ram-Air Hood with chrome twistdowns. This expensive hood stays locked in place three ways with the primary, and secondary locking mechanisms, and then the chrome twistdowns to make absolutely certain it stays in place at high speeds. The original air intake air cleaner functions great and allows forced air into the original Quadrajet 4 barrel carburetor, with a touch of the gas. The original screen under the ram-air hood is still in place. Typically those are long gone. The W-25 ram-air hood is one cool option to have on any 442 and this one still performs exactly as it was meant to be. It has the infamous Whale Tail Spoiler and the Dual Sport Mirrors with the drivers side being remote controlled. It is steered with the deluxe 442 Sport Wheel. There is nothing like cruising down the road looking out the windshield at that awesome striped hood and a peek in the rear view mirror to see the Whale Tail. It has the variable ratio power steering, power front disc brakes, DualGate Shifter, bucket seats, console, FE2 heavy-duty suspension package, dual exhaust with chrome trumpet exhaust tips, factory Super-lift rear shocks, 3.23 10 bolt rear-end with the aluminum W-27 cover, AM/FM, factory 8-Track under dash player with rear speaker, and best of all the W-29 442 package. In 1972 the cut-out rear bumper only came standard on big block 442's, although any Cutlass or 442 could be ordered with one. This cut-out back bumper is original with newer chrome trumpet exhaust tips. These rare options are authenticated by the build sheet, which was recently found in the back seat. This 442 came from the factory with the front sway bar, boxed control arms, and the rear sway bar to make sure this real 442 sticks tight to the asphalt. The tires are BRAND NEW raised white lettered 225/70R14 inch B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A's. The new tires are mounted on Super Stock I wheels with all new chrome lug nuts, all four bolt on center caps, and all four beauty trim rings. They are just the right size to make this car sit proud like a real 442 should. The head lights, bright lights, all four cornering lights, all four turn signals, emergency flashers, and the license plate light all work well. The speedometer, odometer, and gas gauge all work as they should, but the clock is set on the best time of the day. It's always 4:42 time! The front bucket seats were just re-upholstered, so they will be nice and comfortable for many years to come. The aqua lighted gear shift in the console really looks great at night. The interior dome light, console light and dash light work nicely, as well. The balance of the interior, especially the wood grain dash with dash molding all show very well as seen in the pictures. The floors, trunk, and frame are all in very nice condition. I can't see anyone not thinking this is one of the finest 442's on the street. A close friend of mine, who has been restoring these cars for over 35 years, said that this is one of the nicest 442's he's ever driven. The trunk was recently coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray. There are new front floor mats custom made to match the factory carpet inside the car, and a new trunk mat sits inside the nicely detailed trunk with an original restored jack and crowbar. A full size Super Stock I wheel, with a raised white lettered vintage Goodyear Polyglas GT tire, comes inside the trunk just in case there is a mishap on the road. With a quick tire change you can be on your way looking complete. Everywhere you drive this car people are attracted to this car like a magnet. You must be prepared to be the spectacle of the neighborhood. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across in this condition. I tried to replace all of the factory decals to make this car appear as it would have looked the day it rolled out of the factory onto the showroom floor. Take advantage of this chance to finally own your dream car. If you have been saving up for just the right car, this one may just have your name on it. I have been told by several people that this is one of the most elegant looking 442's they have ever seen. Here are the current Nada Classic Car Price Guide values that anyone can check on-line. At the time of this listing a 1972 Oldsmobile 442 is valued at $44,375 in the highest condition, $21,375 in average condition, and $14,250 in the lowest condition. This car is in far better than average condition, so make sure to bid accordingly. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. I try to show and list everything I can think of when I write a description, but if there is anything you feel I may have missed, please ask me any questions you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This fine looking example will be sold on a quick 5-day "No Reserve" auction, that will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
