Vehicle Detail
This 2000 BMW 740iL has received a "blackout" treatment, including black wheels. It also has the final version of BMW's 4.4L engine, after the 1999 VANOS upgrade, in which BMW increased the 4.4L V8's torque output. For the car nerds out there viewing this ad, this particular BMW was manufactured in January 2000. I hoped to keep this car for a long time, taking meticulous care of such a fun-to-drive car that would also make me look more "professional" than my other car. But since I just found out that I am a serious contender in the process to become a U.S. diplomat and may be leaving the country after I graduate from law school soon, I realize that I won't likely be able to give the appropriate time and attention to owning a big huge 7 Series. Plus, I live in a densely-populated area right now, and a 740iL is quite large in light of local parking limitations. This car is the fifth or sixth BMW I have owned in my lifetime, and I will miss having this car very much. A few things about the car: First the bad... 1. The front passenger window regulator needs attention. Otherwise, all the windows go up and down exactly as they should, and so does the glass sunroof. 2. The rear control arms need replacing (this is not terribly expensive). The steering components would probably benefit from a tightening-up of the components there too, though I don't detect any play in the steering. 3. It needs new brakes, but the tires have life on them. 4. The "Service Engine Soon" light is on, as well as the "ABS", "Brake", and "Airbag" lights. If you are a mechanic or have someone close to you who is, this very fast, very luxurious car should be a reliable vehicle you can reliably enjoy for a long time. 5. There are some minor dings on the body and a few scuffmarks that are almost guaranteed to buff out entirely; also, there are a few cracks in the plastic superficial pieces on the bumper, both front and rear. But those things are relatively easy to replace, compared to an integral part of the car's function. 6. I can't get the front cupholders to come out (by pressing in, which should result in it sliding out). But I am quite sure those are easily replaceable with a whole new assembly, for not too much money, from a BMW dealer. Now, the good! 1. The car *is* very straight, with original bodywork and no bondo work at all, and the interior is very nice- it doesn't appear to have been abused. 2. The exterior paint has no large clearcoat wear, and would probably shine up like a perfect new dime with one good paint buffing. It *does* have one little paint blister area right under the tag in the back. 3. The engine IS NOT overheating (yayy!!), the temperature indicator holds very steady at "normal" temperature, and it is not leaking coolant underneath. It's not leaking oil underneath, either. 4. All the locks work. 5. The cruise control works well. 6. ALL the steering wheel buttons work. 7. ALL the buttons on the car seem to work-- especially the three-setting Heated Front Seats. 8. The front seat controls all seem to work. 9. No misfiring comes from the engine, nor any smoke from the exhaust. This car is being sold as-is and I, the seller, offer no warranties, either express or implied, to the buyer, concerning this car. When you make a bid, you do so with the understanding that the sale is final. If you want this car, you should have a reasonable expectation that in order to maintain the health and longevity of this car, a few things should be done to it. Please contact me for any additional information, or to arrange to see or inspect the vehicle in person if you live in the NYC/NNJ area. For the right offer, I will cancel the auction early, which I fully reserve the right to do. The NJMVC is still in the process of issuing me a new title, and I own the car outright. The paperwork was filed with the state on November 5. PLEASE NOTE: For those bidders whose bids were canceled in the previous auction for this car which I closed, a) I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to go back and clarify that the vehicle does not have a warranty, and b) this *is* the same car. Feel confident in making a new bid. Thanks for viewing this ad, and happy eBaying!
