1961 VW Karmann Ghia Up for auction is a 1961 VW Karmann Ghia. It is 95% restored and could be on the street with a Saturday's worth of work. I am downsizing my garage and unfortunately I have to let go of the Ghia. It is a great little car to drive as well as look at. This car is still a 6 volt car although I have the parts to convert it to a 12v if the buyer should choose to do so. The Good: Interior:Over $2500 in parts used on the restoration.All new upholstery in the interior.New seating surfaces front and rear.New headliner.New door panels.Original cardboard glove box. New carpets in the boot (trunk)Mechanical/Functional:New fuel tank and fuel lines.New tires (0 miles except for pushing it around my garage).New ignition coil.New battery (1 month old).Two (2) new 6v headlights (not installed) with brand new trim rings.Brand new starter (not installed but I will install it prior to pickup if the buyer would like).New brake lines on the entire car.A box full of manuals, catalogs and reference materials.What needs done?Add brake fluid and bleed the brakes.Air cleaner needs reinstalled.Windshield wipers need reinstalled (I have both of the arms with wipers).Headlights need installed.The ashtray is missing. A new throttle cable needs installed (I have a brand new one. I will attempt to have this done prior to pickup but make no guarantees).I have both bumpers. They are rough and either need redone or you can put other bumpers on.I have the "dog dish" wheel covers for it. They're rough and could stand to be redone.The weatherstripping around the door windows needs redone. I have a box of new weatherstripping and would imagine the door strips are included although I haven't dug through it.The latch on the engine compartment needs installed.I have a truckload of spare parts - the materials for a 12 volt conversion, extra parts galore, electrical parts, trim parts...enough to cover the bed of a pickup truck. The car has spent the last five years in a climate-controlled garage under a car cover. The car cover will go with the car. The car starts and runs without issue; I started it up a couple months ago. It smoked a little on start-up (it hadn't been started in a while) and cleared up as it ran. I suspect changing the oil would be needed before streeting her. As it stands right now it is NOT drive-able; it needs the new starter, throttle cable and air cleaner unit installed as well as the brakes done. There is absolutely nothing left to do on this car that someone with a basic working knowledge of automobiles can not do. It is that close to done. The car has a clean title. It is sold with absolutely no warranty. As this is a no reserve auction please DO NOT bid if you don't intend to buy the car. As mentioned earlier, the amount spent on parts exceeds the starting price of the auction, to say nothing of the labor involved. This is a bargain. If you have any questions please let me know.
