Up for auction today is my 1986 Chevrolet Silverado K10 1/2 ton short wheel base 4x4 truck. I bought this as a project to restore for my wife to use during the winter time. When I bought it, I was told I was the 3rd owner. The gentleman I bought it from said he bought it from the original owner and he wanted to fix it up. However, after he drove it home, he parked it and then couldn't get it to start. He was going to part it out. It was then that I noticed it had the electronic spark control system on it. I made him an offer and trailer-ed it home and replaced the ecm controlled distributor and carb and it fired right up. I have been driving it regularly for a little over a year. Fixing things as I was driving it. It runs and drives really well. It has a 305 and turbo 350 trans in it. According to a friend of mine who owns a transmission shop, it wasn't uncommon for people to buy these trucks and remove the 700r4 and replace it with a turbo 350. This one was done professionally as it has an adapter to keep the cross member in the stock location and drive lines the stock length. The detente cable and wiring for the 700r4 is still there, as well. Since I've owned it, I have replaced the following: ESC Carb with an Edelbrock 1406 Distributor, rebuilt by Bob at Competition Carburetor in Sparks, NV Edelbrock Intake manifold Valve cover gaskets Driver's side fuel tank and sender 4 new shocks & steering stabilizer 4 new tires Replaced the passenger side door which had a dent in it that couldn't be fixed. Tinted the windows Windshield Front brakes It still needs an A/C compressor and new lines. Power locks work intermittently Surface rust on the bottom of the drivers door It passes smog, which is required here in Nevada. I have changed the oil at regular intervals. 4WD works fine and I have used it multiple times on snow covered roads here in Reno. I have never taken it off road. The frame still has the factory paint on it and when I changed the shocks I only had to use a little PB Blaster to loosen the nuts. Rust is not a problem on this truck. I was going to take it down to the frame and bring it back to like new condition, but I lost my job. Now things are getting tight and we need the money to move for a new job.
