Vehicle Detail
This is a truly amazing Expedition-Quality Jeep Wrangler. This Jeep was professionally built in 2007 for forestry study and expedition/overland work in Argentina and Chile. I took a 5-year assignment as a forestry specialist in Argentina – wanted to have my own vehicle built to specs I knew would be needed for the job – instead of using the companies stock Nissan Patrols. As luck had it, after I had the Jeep completed, but before I was to leave for Argentina, I was offered my dream job in the Sierra Mountains of Northern California – so neither I nor my Jeep ever made it to Argentina. The job I have now doesn’t require a vehicle (mostly helicopter work), so this beautiful machine has just been sitting in a garage – taken out a few times a year during good weather for a picnic, nothing that even requires 4WD. For starters the bones of this vehicle is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler X, TJ – one of the best models ever produced, in my opinion, for overland and expedition work. The Jeep has the 6 cylinder – and an automatic transmission. (Yes, all you rock crawlers, an automatic – this is what you want in a true expedition vehicle – you don’t want to be in the thick of things trying to work a clutch, gas pedal, brake pedal, gear shift, and winch remote while hanging out the front window seeing how close you are to the cliff edge. Plus I will match my automatic against any 5-speed, any day of the week.) With just 32,000 total vehicle miles – only 9,000 since the build (when I say “build” or “built” I am referring to the point when the vehicle underwent extensive modifications to make it a true expedition vehicle – not to the date of manufacture in Detroit), this vehicle hasn’t even broken a sweat yet. I purchased this slightly used vehicle to modify in 2007, with just 22,000 miles on it. The build, in part, consists of the following modifications: Replace rear axle with a Dana 44 Geared Dana 44 rear axle with 4.56 gears Reworked front Dana 30 axle with 4.56 R&P (97 and up TJ) Installed ARB Airlock locking differential with compressor, air lines, pump up kit and interior toggle switches for both front and rear axles. Installed ¾-16 Right tierod ends & Heavy Duty Tierod Installed Racho Heavy Duty Steering Stablizer Installed Rubicon Express 4.5” Superflex lift kit (only lifted 3.5” – can lift an additional 1” if/when desired) – kit also includes (to name just a few): Rear adjustable control arm Rubicon Mono Shock Kit Weld-on shock mounts Rear adjustable track bar to center rear axle Install rear driveline – 15.5” long Install 231 CV slip yoke eliminator, Heavy Duty, standard length Install 4 new BF Goodrich 305/70R-16 Install 4 new American Expedition Wheels Install 2 rock sliders from Warrior Product Install Safari Rack System with a Congo Cage Install Body Armor Front Overland Bumper with winch mount plate Install new Warn 9500 Ti Thermo Metric Winch with remote on front winch mount plate Install two PIAA 510 Series Super White 4” driving lights on front bumper Install Rampage Rear Bumper with tire rack And on, and on, and on . . . I have over $45,000 invested in this expedition-quality Jeep, that has never gone on anything tougher than a mild gravel road to a picnic. My loss is someone’s gain. I have the hard top, soft top, and full safari top as well as cargo nets for back. The engine was left 99% stock -- in my experience this is what you want for Overlanding in a foreign country -- a stock engine is more reliable and trouble-free -- a good thing in the middle of nowhere in a foreign land. You can do anything in this Jeep, and go anywhere – yes, you can rock crawl to your hearts content – but the real beauty to this vehicle is that it is a true Overland/Expedition Quality vehicle that will take you anywhere, and bring you back. Take a look at the pictures. If you have any questions let me know.
