Vehicle Detail

This awesome 1937 Ford club coupe was built as a class project in the Moses Lake Wa. high school shop class in the late 1940's. The owner put in a built Merc flatty in the early 50's along with 1940 Ford juice suspension, rear end and transmission and was the scourge of the town for years, and is still alive today. A true American Graffiti story! The car was found a few years ago after being stored away for decades. It was partially disassembled but was in incredible shape for her age. I bought the car from a buddy who helped locate it. Only work done on it was a new front cab floor pan and rear tail pan, the seat was redone completely in 1950's style, and I repainted the fenders then rubbed out to match original body paint/patina. I left some original lead work in them that matched minor body work in other places. The 1952 Mercury flathead was rebuilt with original Merc steel crank and the original Johnson adjustable lifters and Isky cam. I also added a 12 volt and electric fan system. Has an early OLY beer draft handle for the shifter. This car runs strong and drives great, starts every time. I even added 1940 steelies and new 'old stock' pie cutter tires to be original as possible. Has original 40's Ford and Merc hub caps on her now. Has clear signed title. Still needs a few thing for total completion... needs to have rear glass put in, interior ( headliner door panels etc.) completed to new owners taste. Car is not a shiny hi tech ride but I'm sure it was to a high school kid over 60 years ago. I would recommend a cool banjo steering wheel for it. No rust!! Not perfect like todays big $ rods and has few ding here and there.. but shows it's age and history very well. Brakes do need pumping but work well. Gauges are not hooked up. Has new key start. I have bumpers but have not yet put them on. Get in and you go back to the 50's, the way it really was, in this cool time capsule. Needs a weekend or two to finish as a 95% history correct hot rod, almost guaranteed to win most original category at any car show. It would not be far off from being converted into a shiny show car, but right now it is a down and dirty high school hot rod the way I like em! Call 509-389-5558 for info... I need to sell as I am moving, call or email, I am open to offers... but need some cash if you want to offer trade. Thanks!Sorry for the quality of some of the pics, I had some one send a few and the car is very dusty and could not realign them. I am trying to get a few better interior pics to post. I am in N Dakota most of this week and don't have many of the latest pics on my computer. Trying to get some sent. Seldom has Detroit seen anything to compare with the extravaganza that was unleashed when the 1937 Fordswere introduced! The date was November 6, 1936, and Sales Manager William C. Cowling spared no effort in getting the new models off to a good start. Ford Image Gallery The 1937 Ford lineup, including the Model 74, was introduced with great fanfare. See more pictures of Fords. Some 41 special trains had brought 8,000 dealers to participate in the event. Representing all parts of the United States and Canada, they gathered at the Detroit Coliseum, newly decorated by the famed Walter Dorwin Teague. Music was provided by Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians, then at the height of their popularity.Following brief presentations by company officials, the lights were dimmed. Then a slim, brilliant shaft of light appeared, focused at center stage. There, all eyes fell upon a huge V-8 emblem, rising slowly through the stage on a special elevator.Presently, the light broadened as a sprite -- a 12-year-old girl with golden curls -- untwined herself from the emblem. Running gracefully to one side of the stage, she summoned her fellow sprites, elves, and gnomes, who appeared suddenly from various side entrances.A huge, boiling cauldron then arose at center stage, and, one-by-one, giant replicas of Ford V-8 parts, each representing some feature of the 1937 models, were exposed to the glare of the spotlight -- and tossed, then, into the steaming cauldron: a front fender, an instrument panel, various engine components, a radiator grille, a seat cushion....Then suddenly, as colored lights illuminated the stage, the fumes vanished and the elves disappeared. A shiny Club Coupe, a newcomer to the Ford line for 1937, rose up, circled the stage, and made its way down a ramp to the main floor. It was a spectacular way for an automobile company to present its new product line, and a revolutionary concept in merchandising.
