Vehicle Detail
Here we have a very solid original '69 124 Spider with California black license plates. The car was purchased and spent it's entire life in the East Bay area. I am the second registered owner. When I purchased it, the car had been sitting for a long time. The engine had seized due to a head gasket leak. The engine has been completely rebuilt with all new bearings, +0.8mm ( 0.032") pistons, and a valve job. The leak was caused by electrolysis damage to the head. Damaged areas were repaired by TIG welding and then resurfaced. Only 0.007" were removed from the head during resurfacing. The carburetor was rebuilt, fuel tank cleaned out and all new fuel hoses installed. The alternator was rebuilt . The battery and voltage regulator were replaced. Front brakes are new with rebuilt calipers. The wiper motor was rebuilt. Driveshaft center support and bearing were replaced. The front suspension has been rebuilt and appears to have relatively few miles. The transmission is quiet and shifts well. The original wheels and tires have been replaced with a 14" set from a Turbo Spider. The original steel wheels, hubcaps and lug bolts are included. I have used this car on my 30 mile daily commute for the past couple of months and it hasn't missed a beat! The body and interior: This is a very solid car! It has one small rust bubble on the lower left rear quarter panel and a couple of small holes in the side of the battery box and that's it for rust damage! It has been repainted once, a long time ago (probably at least 25 years). There is some minor bodywork in the left rear corner probably done at the same time as the paint. The nose appears to be in good shape. The paint has lots of nicks and chips and there are a number of door dings and scratches but the paint still shines and it looks pretty good from ten feet away. The seats are in very good shape. The dash has the usual cracks. The door panels have had speaker holes cut in them, The carpet and mats are intact but worn. The dash wood, gauges and steering wheel are all in good shape. The top is fair with a cloudy (but not opaque!) rear window. The original, correct outside mirror is in very nice shape. All in all, this is a very nice driving car that the British would say "oozes patina". It could be driven as is for a long time with no problem or could be the basis for an easy cosmetic restoration. The 1438 Spiders are few and far between. Finding one that isn't beat to death or rusting to pieces is unusual. Here's your chance to get a good one! Reserve is set at $3950, about what I've spent on it. I'm not interested is selling it for less.. Bid early and often!
