Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my '69 R60US. This is an unrestored, all matching numbers bike in good condition. The sheet metal is straight all around. No dings in the tank. Chrome is good to very good and it has a nice set of Weinemen high lip alloy wheels. I have keys for the tool box and fork lock. Even has the original sticker from the factory regarding US safety standards (see photo). Now, being that the bike is 43 years old, there are the usual scuffs in the paint-and the bike does show some wear. There is a crack in one the RH head fins (these are LK heads, by the way). Easily repaired. I would change the rear tire, as it's a 4 x 18 Bridgestone and is much too wide. I'd rather see a Metzeler or Heidenau 3.5 x 18 set up on both wheels. I do not know when the slingers were last cleaned. They were at one point, but I don't know at what miles. The oil is clear and no flakes or residue on changing. I'd clean the slingers, though, just as a matter of course. That's about it. The bike starts easily and I've had it running up until about a week ago, so putting it on the road isn't an issue. It handles extremely well, as the US series "R" bikes do--so much better than the Earles fork models. And, yes, I know that the US models don't "look" like a "real" BMW. Have a talk with the folks up at Barrington Motor Works or out at Bench Mark, though, and they'll tell you that these US models are becoming collectable (only 1700 0r so made) and that as sport touring bikes they are very sound. I'm including a new Denfeld passenger seat and a spare set of telescopic forks with the bike, just in case you decide to run it into a wall and bend the tubes (I like to plan for the future). This is a good, sound, bike for either restoration or riding the roads. Seller reserves the right to end the auction early, as the bike is also for sale locally. Good luck bidding.
