Vehicle Detail

According to Toyota Motor Sales, USA, in 1981 there were only 2,027 FJ40 AND FJ60s combined sold in the U.S. (the fewest in all of their years of sales). That year was also the first year of the FJ60, which replaced the FJ55....and many people wanted the newest four door. Therefore, it is estimated that the number of FJ40s sold that year was between 700-850. This information is from CCOTs site, great folks with lots of knowledge! This makes this 1981 FJ40 a little more 'rare' than other year models!!! 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. I have owned nine FJ40s since the early 1980s and this is to date the best one! This vehicle has been driven an average of 3 times a week for the last five years. It originated in California, then went to New Mexico and finally made it to central & southeast Texas. I am the 4th owner. Always garaged, non-smoker & kept 'squared-away' by a former military officer. Although the finest off-road vehicle in the world, this one has seen very little of it. If you know FJ40s then you are aware of their off-road capabilities, yet this one will also easily cruise down the interstate at 70mph. And the folks in the $90,000 SUVs will be staring and wishing they had an FJ40....it happens all of the time. I've even had guys in Bentley's and Ferrari's give me the 'thumbs-up' as they passed. Now that is respect for a true Legend! This FJ40 is very stock, with the exception of some great additions including: Australian made Old Man Emu complete suspension system. The experts say this is the best in the world (Dakar leaf springs, greaseable shackles, poly bushings, shocks & steering stabilizer. Factory power steering that adds to the firm, yet smooth & stable ride. Factory Air Conditioning (all components present). Needs minor repair. 31x10.50 R15LT BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires w/60% tread life remaining. White spoke wheels were a sporty option in 1981. CCOT lockable console w/drink holder & 2 keys. Rear heater (not included) can be reinstalled as hoses were left in place & closed off. Ten windows tinted with legal-medium tint gives great look, security & keeps the interior temperature cool. Original glass is perfect! Newest additions: CCOT headliner, rubber weatherstriping all doors & vents, Australian-style exterior mirrors, leather steering wheel wrap, new battery, water pump, tie rod ends (5), exhaust paint with high temp paint, under-carriage/fender wells painted with Dupli-coat rubberized Bed Armor. Front & rear differential, transmission & transfer fluids changed earlier this year. Chasis & steering knuckles lubed and engine oil changed 2 months ago. 4.2L 6-cyl stock engine has the factory emission equipment intact for you owners in CA (but can be removed). This FJ40 runs very strong, the transmission smoothly shifts through all gears and the transfer and locking hubs work perfectly. Pull choke-turn the key-it starts right up...very reliable. I have the current Texas title in my name. All of the tough 'getting-it-right' things have already been done to this FJ40 to make it an outstanding vehicle. The little items to personalize it is all that remains. I have a very low reserve for an FJ40 that is late model and in this condition. Note: black & white cat is not included! If you have serious questions regarding this FJ40, you may contact me through Ebay's 'Contact Seller'. My cell # is 936 524 3968. Please leave a message. Thanks & HOOAH! Major DonOn Oct-03-12 at 07:32:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional data: The off-colored flooring on the passenger & driver side are 1/8" thick, glued, stock pads for temperature comfort. Paint is original so it does have a few scratches & dents for a 31yr. old vehicle. You are welcome to drive or fly-in to see and drive this FJ40. I am so confident that you will like the total package, that I will pick you up at Houston-Bush Intercontinential Airport and bring you here (and back if needed). When I bought this J40 through Ebay almost 5 yrs. ago, I drove 3 hrs. one way to see and drive it, paid the seller, then drove it home from there with my wife driving the other Toyota.....I was that impressed. If you need transport/shipping, I can recommend an excellent company that you can go direct to. They cover approximately twelve states. This FJ40 is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thanks On Oct-06-12 at 10:36:31 PDT, seller added the following information: I appreciate the calls & emails I have received on this FJ40...Land Cruiser people are truly great! Nearing the mid-way point in the auction and high bid is very close to the Reserve (which I lowered). I've been asked why I am selling it: I have found another FJ40 ('80) that I am purchasing from a guy's collection of autos. On Oct-08-12 at 06:59:47 PDT, seller added the following information: With 1 1/2 days remaining on the auction, I've received numerous requests of "what are your plans if the auction does not reach your reserve price"? This is a valid serious buyer question and I do appreciate your interest. I will either re-list it auction style or sell it to the highest offer....depending on the price. I do have some of your phone #s, some buyers have contacted me by Ebay "contact seller" and some through my personal email....some all three & that is o.k. Cell phone 936 524 3968. majordonbenton@gmail.com Thanks & Hooah! DonOn Oct-08-12 at 17:46:41 PDT, seller added the following information: I futher reduced the Reserve price for the 2nd time in order to sell this FJ40. Auction officially has less than 24-hours for bidding, so bid on this 'legend' vehicle as if you already owe it! They really are an investment: In 1979, my twin brother (Army Ranger) bought a 1972 FJ40. It was white like mine and he named it "Buckwheat". He owned in for 13 years and drove it daily at three military locations, Ft. Benning, GA, Schofield Barracks, HI, & Presido-San Francisco, CA. Before deploying to Europe he sold it with over 300,000 miles on it for TRIPLE what he originally paid for it. You just got to luv 'em!
