Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1965 Plymouth Fury III 2dr. When I aquired the car it still had the original interior in very decent shape as can be seen in the photos save for a stained carpet. With new carpet the interior looked dated and in need of freshening. The original seat material also created tremendous static on exiting the car, nice as it was it had to go. I had the interior custom redone in the same pattern layout on the seats, door panels, visors, dash pad, headliner and it came out great. The seats feel much more comfortable than the originals. It has all new door handles and cranks too. The original engine was the Poly wide block 318 backed with the small block 727 automatic. This was replaced with a 440 cu. in. standard bore late Chrysler crate engine and features an Edelbrock 2x4 intake with Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carbs, Lunati roller cam, Roller rocker shafts, ported Stealth aluminum heads, MSD Billet distributor and Blaster coil, windage tray, mini starter, chrome valve covers and oil pan and Ceramic coated headers. The trans is a freshened big block 727 with a mild stall in the convertor near 2000, new driveshaft u-joints and balance, 3.23:1 Sure Grip posi, Hurst floor shift, new shocks all around. This car has the optional heavy duty brakes which are 11" x 3" drums with near new linings and cylinders. The exhaust is new with Flowmasters and 2-1/2 pipes and classic 3" hemi pipes out the back. I wanted this car to have a blend of the classic looks from the Super Stock/Max Wedge/AFX cars from back in the day so along with a proper engine it needed the exterior to look "right" as well. The hood scoop is an accurate copy of the 64-65 Hemi scoop and the wheels come from the hot new Rocket Racing Wheel line. Up front are Rocket Launcher 10 spoke 15 x 4-1/2's and the rears are 15 x 8 Rocket Injectors. Modern versions of the old Halibrands from back in the day. Pictures 1 through 9 show the car as I bought it with the original interior and drivetrain, the rest show it in it's current configuration. The previous owner had the car painted at a cost of $8000 and has fresh bumpers. The photos don't show the emblems installed but all of them are on the car now. The body is straight, has to be in black. The underside is fully undercoated. Has new weatherstrips on the trunk and roof rails and front and rear glass. The car is nice and tight on the street with no rattles. This car never fails to turn heads and draw a crowd when I take it out. You see the usual Cuda's, Road Runners and Challengers and maybe an early Belvedere but these 65 Fury's (a 1 yr only car, 66's are close but don't look near as good) are a rare sight and very few if any like this one. Lift the hood and fire up that roller cammed 440 and you'll be grinning like an idiot. What a great sound this car makes, it's positively wicked! It fires right up and despite it's lumpy cam can be driven off with little warmup (1 minute is usually enough) and has excellent manners in traffic. Oil pressure is 70lbs. cold and 60lbs. hot, volt meter shows 14. Throttle input to keep up with traffic on a nearby 6 lane blvd. takes only about 1/8" travel on the pedal, I'm serious, just off idle is good enough to do that. In gear it idles at 700 rpm hot. I installed a new aluminum radiator and electric fan to help cool on hotter days. The original radiator still in great condition goes with the car as well. I'm 60, and just cruise it around, I don't thrash it and it's never seen the drag strip and never will. I really don't care what it'll do. It runs nice on the freeway with the 3.23's but if real speed is what you want it for then you might want to put in a set of 3.91 or 4.10's. I was conservative on the convertor stall so it would drive well on the street. Racing will require something higher. I have a new project lined up and have only room for one at a time and this one is practically done now. What is remaining to do on the list is as follows: front disc brake upgrade (if desired),replace the drivers door mirror. I have the original but was looking for a nicer one if possible without buying a new one. The molding on the hood needs to be straightened as well as a grill dimple and a headlight dimpled molding. It was slightly dented when I bought the car and since it wasn't all that bad it was put at the end of the to do list. I have a source that can restore them. The horn was working but recently quit and the steering wheel contact is at fault, testing at the horn relay on the firewall activates the horn. The windshield is new but the previous owner ran the wipers with old rubber fillers and they made a light scuff on the glass which should polish out. Windows roll up and down, the wipers work, headlights and taillights work. I also have a broadcast sheet on the car. The mileage was 5233 when I got it. The original interior was really nice but I can't say for sure that is the original figure and since I've owned it its gone up to almost 6036 and will rise slightly as I drive it a little on the weekends till it's sold. There are no odors inside and it's a non smoker's car, just a fresh interior scent. Still uses the original keys! This car has class and you won't come across anything like it while driving around, people react to it like you won't believe.....there is no way to blend in traffic in this car! You'll get used to it after awhile. I have a few extra parts and if you desire them I have the 4 original steel wheels with tires that go with it.
