Vehicle Detail
Own one of Car and Driver's Ten Best Unheralded Performance Cars (January 1993)! Condition: Fair Known mechanical issues: Air conditioning is inoperative. Fuel tank drips some gas when full. Trunk key lock does not work. Must use manual trunk release. Fog lights are inoperative. Some electrical gremlins. Fan blower does not work in all positions. Sometimes I get 2 red lights on the instrument panel for no reason and then they turn off. It hasn't happened in so long I can't even remember what lights they were. Known cosmetic issues: Paint: Multiple (too many to list) small indentations, scratches, hairline cracks, and marks. One area of clear coat is coming off. (See pictures) Plastic window trim missing on part of rear window. Sunroof plastic trim cracked. Some rust underneath doors and in door frame. (See pictures) Headliner is very ragged. (See pictures) Features: Aftermarket Kenwood Radio/CD Player and Kenwood speakers. Installed 2003. History: I've owned this car since 2000 and have put about 100,000 miles on it. My father purchased it from a neighbor in Howard, OH. I don't know the damage history before I owned it. I did have somebody back their truck into the right front quarter panel. The panel and headlight assembly were replaced. I also had someone rear-end the car at a slow speed and it didn't cause much damage except for some hairlines in the bumper and a nearly imperceptible warp in the trunk lid. Almost immediately after coming into possession of the vehicle in 2000, with about 130,000 miles on it, the common 5th gear pop-out problem started. I repaired that twice. The first time it was repaired incorrectly, but there have been no transmission problems since the second repair. In 2005, I replaced the engine with a used motor from Soshin Trade Corporation in South Gate, CA. At the time, Soshin told me the motor should not have more than 50,000 miles on it, but I have no way to verify that. I've put about 50,000 miles on the replaced engine, so I would estimate the engine only has about 100,000 miles on it at most. I also installed aftermarket motor mounts at the same time. That was also the last time the clutch was replaced. This car has been sitting in my garage for over a year. The battery won't keep a charge, but I will pay for and install a new battery when the car is sold. I've got one too many high mileage Japanese cars and this one has got to go since it is the least family friendly (2 door). I'm sad to see it go because it's sporty and really fun to drive. This car is being sold AS-IS. I make no warranties and sale will be final. Please keep in mind that this is a high mileage car with multiple minor issues. On Sep-17-12 at 18:53:01 PDT, seller added the following information:I had someone ask me if the car was drivable on a long road trip. In my opinion, the car is drivable as-is (once I replace the battery). Before we parked it in the garage and bought a Hyundai Santa Fe, my wife would regularly drive this car on 4 hour round-trip jobs. The only problem she ever had was a flat tire. I suppose it could be towed, but who wants to pay to tow a car that is actually running well? I can't guarantee something won't break, but I see no reason to not drive it as things are.On Sep-18-12 at 08:23:48 PDT, seller added the following information:Somebody asked me about the extent of the rust on this vehicle. First off, I can see no rust on the frame of the vehicle from the bottom. There is some rusting on the exhaust components. The car was undercoated, so the frame and running boards are in great shape rust-wise. The major rust areas are on the body of the car as depicted in the photos. Here's a complete list of the areas I found today when I took a really good look at the car: 1. On the lower body, below the driver's door, behind the left front wheel well there is a 1"x4" area. (See picture) 2. Inside the left door frame there are two areas about 2"x2" next to the upper hinge. One area is just bubbly but the other area is pretty rusty and flaky. (See picture) 3. Underneath the left door on the body there are about 4 1"x1" areas where the paint is bubbly. 4. On the perimeter of the left real wheel well there is a 1"x4" area with pretty heavy rust and a 1"x2" area on the top of the wheel well with bubbly paint. 5. Around the trunk lid there are 5 pea sized paint chips that have rusted over. 6. On the top perimeter of the right rear wheel well there is a small paint chip that has rusted over. 7. On the lower body in front of the rear wheel well there is a 4"x8" area of pretty heavy rust, but the paint is still intact. (See picture) None of the spots have completely rusted through, but I haven't chipped or peeled any paint on these areas to see.
