Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE AUCTION (Bid to Buy) 1981 Toyota LandCruiser FJ40. I own a FJ40 restoration shop, I’m thinning some of my inventory to expand my growing business. I’m selling this FJ40 as a running/driving project. 1975-83 FJ40’s are the desired years with 79-83 being the most sought after, the closer to 83 model year the higher the value. In 1981 only 300-400 FJ40’s were imported to the US. These years have all the desired upgrades with 3.70 highway friendly gears, 4 speed, disc brakes, fuel tank under the bed instead of under the seat, overall better design. This truck is mechanically sound and has all those super expensive stock parts still in it. It needs rust repair, but can be enjoyed as-is. If you are looking for a mild/mid-range project, this is perfect. I planned to restore and re-sell, but I need to clear some inventory. I have a list below of upcoming LandCruisers that will be for sale in the coming months. Click or copy and paste the photobucket link below for 80 pictures of this truck. http://s953.photobucket.com/albums/ae11/fj40man79/1981%20Red%20FJ40/ BODY This truck retains it’s original body panels, I do not see any evidence of any type of crash. The frame is solid. The tub has rust. There are two kinds of rust, Seattle rain type rust which rots the whole vehicle over time and salty road rust in the tub and anywhere the tires throw water. This FJ has salty road rust. The tub needs metal replacement in several areas noted in the pictures on the photobucket link. I prefer the salty road rust as it lies mostly in the tub vs. the rest of the vehicle. I would not replace the tub, just patch in pieces. Even with limited welding skills this can be done if you have the desire and time. The one drawback to the 79-83 FJ40 in the thinner gauge metal compared to the older units. The glass is good minus the front windshield. The original seats and expensive parts that came stock are there. The last pic on this add is of a 83 FJ40 I restored, what this one could look like when completed. MECHANICAL I drove this FJ40 about 50 miles to test it all out. The 2F motor is completely stock and runs excellent. The compression is excellent, the carburetor was rebuilt recently. This FJ has all it’s emissions components which is vital if you live in an emissions controlled state like CA. Just the emissions components for this vehicle cost $2500 from SOR. This vehicle has 64,xxx original miles. This truck goes down the road fine, no serious problems or bad sounds from the components. There is a small 2 in lift, the wheels are not stock. The stock wheels were used on Toyota trucks of this era and found everywhere. The only leak I found is at the steering box. It also needs a muffler if you plan on driving it now. I believe this truck to be a worthy project that will be worth 40-50k when completed. I just sold my 83 FJ40 which is essentially the same vehicle on eBay for 47K. The values were much higher a few years ago and I hope they will be again. This is the coveted year, so putting money into it will payoff on the other end. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit immediately after the auction closes via PayPal. The remainder in wire transfer/cashiers check/cash in person within 7 days closed auction. If you have less than 10 feedback please email me your phone # before bidding. Non-compliance means bids will be cancelled. I have a clean clear WA state title pending on this truck. I changed over the title Aug 6, it takes 5-6 weeks for me to get it back from the state. It is in my name, also noted on the carfax above, I will mail it directly after I receive it. I can also send you the title app paperwork to prove I own it if desired. I welcome any 3rd party inspections during the auction. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in the phone book. I have a shipping broker who has done perfect for me the last 66 shipments. I will put you in contact with him directly or work with your desired shipper. Coming vehicles for sale 1975 FJ40 custom built expedition vehicle camo. High dollar build, will be done in 1-2 weeks and on eBay. $27,000 1967 FJ45 long bed pickup last US import year all stock. 100% rot free, surface rust from baking in the high desert for the last 29 years. 22k original miles. I need to replace the rear axle (why it was parked) and get it running/driving. Clear Clean WA title. Super rare and a perfect clean slate for a build. $13,500. 1-2 months out. 1976 FJ40 all stock and 100% rust free original paint. Will spend 1-2 months in my shop then will be for sale in the $25,000 range.1-2 months out. 1974 FJ40 expedition vehicle camo, will be for sale in 4-5 months at $25,000. 1965 FJ45 short bed truck resto-mod. The finest FJ45 truck on the planet, my personal truck, not actively for sale, $85,000 invested, would sell for $50,000. I’m so backed up with restoration work I can’t take on any more, hence the reason for expanding my shop and equipment from 4000 ft to 8000. Thanks and Happy Bidding!
