Vehicle Detail
Mercedes 280SE. The epitome of style and elegance. Take a virtual test drive below. I acquired this car two days ago as part of a trade. I would love to keep this car, however, I already have too many vehicles so I think it's best to put this one up for adoption. I will be putting more detailed information and photos up in the next couple of days, so please check back often. The title is clear and indicates NON-ACTUAL: WARNING Odometer Discrepancy. This car is in good cosmetic condition for its age. I don't know anything about the history of this car but the dealers advertisement indicates that it was first sold through a dealer in Louisville, KY. The lower portion of the doors and fenders appear to have been repainted but the paint above the chrome strips looks original. The original paint still has a lustrous sheen and a nice patina. The exterior paint color is anthracite grey, code #173. There are some small dings and other imperfections but I have not seen any larger than a dime. There is some rust located on the bottom edge of the left rear quarter panel (I will provide a photo below as soon as possible). The chrome is also generally in good condition with some small dings. There are some small spots that have been covered with touch up paint. The seats, carpet and door panels are red and generally in good condition. The front has non-OEM floor mats protecting the original carpet and floor mats. Some of the plastic coating on the OEM floor mat under the drivers controls is deteriorating. The dashboard has a 1.5 inch (3.9 cm) crack on the dashboard between the instrument cluster and the speaker grill. The tires all match and have an average thread depth of about 7mm. The left front tire has some excessive wear on the outboard edge. All the power windows work but not all of the power window switches work. All lights work. The original radio has been replaced by an aftermarket unit. The original radio is not included. The headliner is in good condition and has some discoloration near the rear view mirror. The steering wheel has some cracks. This car is available for inspection at Xenia, Ohio, United States 45385. Contact me through Ebay if interested in making arrangements. I have not had a chance to do a thorough assessment of the mechanical systems The car starts easily and runs. The only driving I have done in this car was during the making of the video featured above. The power steering has a feel and sound that I relate to low power steering fluid. I have not tried the air condition but the previous owner told me that the A/C works but not well. I have not verified that information myself. At minimum, it may need to have the refrigerant charged. Hangover car shown below: More Trivia: This car is similar to a black 280S that was stolen by James Bond (Roger Moore) from comrades of General Orlov (Steven Berkoff) in East Germany in the 1983 film Octopussy. When its tires were punctured by a trap, Bond famously drove the car along a railway track in pursuit of a train carrying Octopussy's circus across the West/East German border (although the scenes were actually filmed in Cambridgeshire, England), and just before reaching the border Bond managed to jump upon the train just before the car collided head-on with another train and was sent flying into a river. Toy car below is not included.
