Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a great running, good looking, rare "uncut" 1968 Ford Bronco. This is one straight '68 that will take VERY little to transform into a show-quality early Bronco. As you can see in the pictures, this Bronco has been well cared for and was the recipient of a very nice restoration about 8 years ago. As restorations go, however, this unit was sold a little short on the final paint job. Don't get me wrong, the paint is still in very good shape....but about a year ago I noticed areas where the paint was beginning to show signs of degradation. Knowing that I would ultimately be having this unit professionally restored I treated these areas with a "preservation coat". This is the color variation you may notice in the photos. Despite these touched up areas and a few areas in seams where very slight surface rust is beginning to show, this Bronco has very straight sheet metal. I have gone over the entire surface with a very weak magnet and found only one area that apparently had body work done....the passenger side rocker panel....but that's the only evidence of filler that I could find. There are a few small pinhole rust throughs on the tailgate and one on the driver-side rear quarter panel where the support bracket is welded to the quarter panel. Surprizingly, however, there are no other rust through's anywhere else on the the rear quarter panels. In fact, the inside of the panels are in great shape. The pinholes on the tailgate are mostly on the interior with a couple on the exterior....where Bronco's always rust. The floorboards appear to have been replaced and are rhino lined...which is starting to wear thin on the driver's side. Finally, the last disclosure re: the exterior of this Bronco. While changing the oil last year a good ol' Montana wind gust came up and flung open the hood which did no damage to the cab or windshield...but did put a couple small creases in the hood (see picture) which I also touched up to make sure they didn't rust. In addition to a very straight body this Bronco also has a new windshield, front and rear "stock" bumpers and a very operable and clean spare tire mount. The aluminum/chrome Sport trim is complete and in good shape. OK, I think that fully describes the exterior condition...on to the mechanical. This Bronco runs like a champ. It has a very strong Ford 289 V8. It has new distributor, spark plugs and spark plug wires. The entire Bronco has upgraded Centech Wiring so most everything electrical works with the exception of the cigarette lighter. The gas gauge only works intermittently due to a poor connection or possibly bad sending unit. However, because it works only intermittently when either tank is selected, my suspicion is that it is just a connection. I have just not had the opportunity to crawl around under the dash to figure it out. This Bronco has absolutely no trouble starting. A few pumps of the gas and she fires right up. Note: a few more pumps are required in the middle of winter....but I've never had the battery wear down before it fires up. The automatic transmission is a solid performer, shifts well and moves the Bronco along nicely at 55 mph. I've never really taken it much faster...but suspect it will do just fine at higher speeds. Four-wheel-drive works great. Warn hubs are manual lock-out and operate smoothly. Transfer case shifts fairly easily....as shifters go. Power Steering was installed two years ago and operates flawlessly....a real life-saver. 2 1/2" Wild Horses Suspension Lift was installed two years ago. Not only does the Bronco look better, it handles the road and the bumps like....well...a Bronco with a new suspension. Tires are aggressive, show little wear and are mounted on nice rims. May not be the best rims if you are planning on taking this Bronco on some serious off-road....but then again, I'm thinking this Bronco has been groomed more as a looker than a crawler. But who am I to say. OK...finally....the interior. Not too much to say, or disclose, other than the fact that perhaps the seats are this Bronco's weakest feature. The seats are original with enduro style seat covers. I have new black seat covers from Wild Horses....but when I went to install them discovered that the seat rail mechanism was shot. Shot to a point where it wasn't even worth trying to fix. So although the seat is just fine to sit on, I would recommend new driver and passenger seats... The only other down side to the interior of this Bronco is that it is missing the headliner.A new padded rollbar was installed a couple of years ago and the seat belts are mounted directly to the floor and the rollbar. Rear windows have tinting...but it is beginning to bubble up in areas. I did not update the tinting because I figured I would have it done during the restoration. The windows themselves, however, are in great shape. To sum it up, this Bronco is not quite perfect...but it is extremely straight, runs very well and has all the essential upgrades except power brakes. It looks great as-is and would make a great daily driver. However, this Bronco's true value is in its potential to be a show-quality vehicle without extensive repairs, bodywork or upgrades. You may have noticed in this description that I mentioned my plans to have this unit restored. Well, unfortunately, it has become painfully clear that other projects are taking priority. Thank you again for looking and Good Luck. NOTE: Please, serious buyers only. Do not bid on this if you are not 100% certain you can/will follow through...speaking from recent experience. Thanks again. Thought I might as well share them with all potential bidders. The bidder wanted to see my Bronco driving at 65mph to ensure that it did not develop the "death wobble" or overheat. It was shot from my camera phone....so unfortunately you will need to watch them sideways on your computer screen....sorry about that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qhe6A66wVk&feature=channel&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3ceyyQT1tY&feature=channel&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwAFy-Ob4Hw&feature=channel&list=UL Thank you and good luck.
