Vehicle Detail
The Good Stuff - I have owned this Cabrio for six years. In that time, it has been garaged 100% of the time and not driven in winter salted roads. The previous owner also garaged the vehicle and told me that it originally was owned by her relative in California. That part I can't verify, but I can say that the body is almost completely rust free. The paint is original and in good condition. The interior is in fair condition, with most wear on the driver's seat. The carpets are fair. The previous owner installed a modern stereo and sub-woofie in the trunk. The tires are new this year with less than 1,000 miles on it. Note: The title is dated 2011, as it was not driven for five years, sitting in my garage awaiting money for tires brakes and fuel pump, which are now all new in 2011. So it has only been on the road for me since July of 2011, just a bit over a year ago. The convertible top is in excellent shape, being replaced by the previous owner, but the inside liner of the top is original, with a few tears, nothing major. It passed Massachusetts inspection in 2011. The car comes with the tonneau top and a car cover. The transmission is a five speed manual. Now for the not-so-good stuff: The car is 23 years old. The engine, while running, is old and tired and smokes a bit sometimes. With 182,000 miles on the original engine, I suspect it will need rebuilding soon. So if you happen to have an old but rusty VW GTI or something and need a new body for your killer engine, this might be a great car to transplant an engine into. The right axle makes a clicking noise on hard right turns -so the CV or axle will need replacement soon. The clutch works. For how long, nobody knows. Perhaps it may outlast the tired engine. So what we have here is a nice project car for somebody that wants to do mechanical work, not body work. I would not recommend this for anybody that wants a "daily driver" as it is 23 years old and needs work. Sure, you can drive it away and it would likely pass safety inspection, but think of this as something you will need to spend money on real soon. Warranty - None. Delivery - None - you pay for it, you drive it or truck it home. Got AAA? Live in New England? Go for it! Payment - Pay it all via Paypal or CASH on pickup - all within 7 days of buying it, or it goes back on eBay. No other forms of payment. Selling to - You must be over 18, pay for it first or when picked up, and did you really read what is wrong with it and what it needs? You must arrange all your own shipping or pickup. And my plates come off as soon as you pay for it, so no driving it home on my plates or insurance. So why am I selling this very nice looking Cabrio? I have put a fair bit of money into it and it's still not worth much. Plus I bought a new MINI Cooper S. And the VW needs to give up it's garage for the new MINI, so onto eBay it goes. Somebody will restore this with an engine and other bits and have a nice 23 year old classic - 2 more years and it's antique. Live local to Kingston, MA? e-mail me via eBay to arrange a viewing and test drive if you wish. And please, don't pay too much for this car. It's tired and old and looking for a good home! BTW - the previous owner called it "Wolfie" due to it being a limited edition Wolfsburg model with some special wheels. So it has a name. You could change it of course. Take a look at all the pictures. "Pretty Car." But old and tired in the engine department. Please realize that. Don't buy it for your kid if you think it's cute. It's a collector car, not a daily driver. The Engine - It starts easy, runs OK, has enough power to get to 75 MPH easy. Somewhere there is an oil leak. I had the valve cover gasket replaced and the timing belt. It had an oil change about 200 miles ago. If you leave it for a week, it will puff some blue smoke out the exhaust for about a minute then is calms down, so I suspect it is burning oil, but not enough to have to fill it up yet. Air Conditioning - It is there, but not working. I did not even try to fix the AC as it is a convertible, but the plumbing is all there. I warranty it NOT to work. :-)
